I have an extremely large fibroid and several smaller ones. My periods arevery painful and every month i cannot leave my house or my office as i need to be close to a toilet for the first 2 days as i can flood just by standing up - i can change my pad return to my seat stand up and i can flood again. I am 48 (nearly 49) years old. My Gynae suggested a hysterectomy. i work for myself and the thought of 6-8 weeks off work wasnt really an option, also i was told that when i started on the menopause my fibroids would shrink away so i decided to look into other procedures. Last march I had a novasure ablation carried out under a general anaesthetic, initially i wasn't sure if it had worked for me as my first two periods were fairly heavy, and i had some strange pains, but as time has passed the periods are very light (although i still experience strange pains sometimes) I am just hoping that i am average and start on the menopause within the next year or so as my fibroids are continuing to grow and i can definitely feel the large one pressing on a nerve, which can be quite painful. All in all i think i made the right decision. Good Luck to anyone making this decision.

Hi dfielding123....I think this is wonderful information to share with us women...I only wish years ago that this was available for me...I, too, might have chosen the route you have taken...FYI, I know of two women that have had this done and are very satisfied....Thanks again...

I am scheduled to have an endometrial ablation in about 2 weeks - i will also be having a D n C since i have polyps. Needless to say i am kinda nervous about the whole thing but my bleeding during period is so heavy that i often have to stay in and i have had to leave work at times because of an ACCIDENT! I actually reached a point where i am wearing up to three pads at a time!! So i am looking forward to walking normally and being able to wear pants even during that time(not able to do now since shape of pad shows)
