I have an extremely large fibroid and several smaller ones. My periods arevery painful and every month i cannot leave my house or my office as i need to be close to a toilet for the first 2 days as i can flood just by standing up - i can change my pad return to my seat stand up and i can flood again. I am 48 (nearly 49) years old. My Gynae suggested a hysterectomy. i work for myself and the thought of 6-8 weeks off work wasnt really an option, also i was told that when i started on the menopause my fibroids would shrink away so i decided to look into other procedures. Last march I had a novasure ablation carried out under a general anaesthetic, initially i wasn't sure if it had worked for me as my first two periods were fairly heavy, and i had some strange pains, but as time has passed the periods are very light (although i still experience strange pains sometimes) I am just hoping that i am average and start on the menopause within the next year or so as my fibroids are continuing to grow and i can definitely feel the large one pressing on a nerve, which can be quite painful. All in all i think i made the right decision. Good Luck to anyone making this decision.
