Q: Nova-sure treatment and pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 29th, 2008
I had the novasure treatment done for heavy menstrual periods a year ago, now I have light periods with breast tenderness and mild cramping. I am in a new relationship (engaged) and we long to have a baby. Is there anything to help increase the chance of getting pregnant.

Menstruation Answer A4037
Novasure-treatment includes permanent removal of the uterus’s inner layer – the endometrium - in order to prevent heavy periods (menorrhagia). Without endometrium, a pregnancy is impossible. This means that this therapeutic procedure can be used only in women who are not planning to have any more kids.

Women in perimenopause are usually candidates for novasure-treatment. If the endometrium wasn’t destroyed completely there are certain small chances for getting pregnant. But it is very important to know that such pregnancy could be very dangerous for both the mother and the fetus. That’s why, using contraception is recommended.

You may want to consult your gynecologist about this.
