I have a 17 year old daughter with serious stomach problems, she has had this going on for over a year now and it keeps getting worse and worse, she has also had swollen tonsils for the same amount of time or longer this week her tonsils are touching, every time her tonsils are swollen the rest of her lymph nodes in her head and neck get enlarged, I took her to the hematologist / oncologist because she has von willebrand disease so we need to find out if she is responsive to the medication before the surgery (she is) but while we were there they did a blood smear to test for some sort of cancer, (negative ) . I am not sure if they are related but to be honest I don’t know how they would be.

I have taken her to the doctor many times and he says, it is not strep it is just a sore throat with white spots, with her stomach it is just the stomach bug, it has gotten so bad I have taken her to the ER twice but they ruled out Gall bladder with an ultrasound in the ER and a follow up hide a scan at the doctors office. Strep test after strep test, I finally called an ENT, she is having her tonsils out next week.

With her stomach combined with her tonsils she is not eating, she said it hurts to swallow her own spit. She has been eating small meals here and there forcing herself to eat something because she is so weak, finally I got her some boost so she has some sort of nutrition, over the weekend her crackers and boost have started going right through her, any time she eats or drinks anything she gets diarrhea.

I have an appointment set up with the GI doctor tomorrow but I am so afraid I am going to run into another dead end. I have spent so much time and money trying to help her and I am running out of time, I am getting laid off in February, I am actively looking but once I am laid off if I don’t have something else I won’t have insurance, I want answers now, before she blows away in the wind.

Not eating
Be careful allowing your daughter to have a barium imaging when she is not eating (or keeping food/liquids down) as she could become barium poisoned - since the barium will not be moved out of her system if she is not eating/drinking. Believe this happened to my mother and had no warning of this possibility -

Hi indeed and welcome to ehealth: Was your daughter having any problems at school before this happened?...Could it have anything to do with stress?...Sometimes a young person of this age can kind of self inflict themselves with a problem that isn't there....I know I had one of them..(daughter that is)..I don't doubt you, however, I thought I would bring it forward....Take care and keep us advised...
