My fiance's nose was bleeding and he has high blood pressure. Can that cause a stroke or anything serious?

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth's Ask a Doctor forum.
High blood pressure can result in bleeding from nose if due to the high pressure the capillaries burst. The bleeding from nose cannot cause stroke but it can be serious enough at times. Hence whenever there is a bleed from the nose you should immediately apply an icepack or pinch the bridge of the nose.
However high blood pressure in itself can cause bleeding from capillaries in the brain and cause stroke. Hence a high blood pressure should always be controlled by medication, diet and exercise as advised. Hope this helps. Take care!
