Ever since i started my period at age 13 they have been normal. I am now 33 have 2 kids and have have had my tubes tied for 9 years. All of the sudden for the past 2 -3 months my periods have been very irregular. Meaning sometimes 2 periods a month and sometimes not having one at all. What could cause this? I have also recently just stopped taking perscription narcotics after 6 years.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The changes in period pattern could suggest chances of perimenopausal onset or hormonal changes, or endometrial changes, or pregnancy etc. The exact cause can only be made out after careful evaluation. Consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination and further evaluation to look for the underlying cause for the abnormal vaginal bleeding/periods that you describe. Hormonal analysis done will help to confirm/rule out hormonal derangements and menopausal onset. Ultrasound scan done will help to rule out ovarian and endometrial changes. Treatment as needed (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you control the bleeding and regulate your periods. Consider being in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
