Q: normal period on Mirena?

I had mirena put in toward the end of my period. After it was in, I continued to bleed for quite a while. That whole month my bleeding went up and down and only just briefly stopped. Because of this, I didn't know when my next period would be, once the bleeding finally did stop. The next period seemed to be at a reasonable time although I don't remember how many days after the original bleeding it started.

Now I'm waiting for my next period after that one. I haven't kept track as well as I should but what I do know is that it's been at least 30 or 31 days since the first day of my last cycle. I had some odd cramping and bloating a couple weeks ago. I also have had occasional headaches, although nothing too bad. The headaches have almost been negligible. The cramping was as if I had my period, but it was obviously too early for it and I wasn't bleeding, although I did experience some spotting for a day or two. The cramping is also starting to return. I'm also experiencing soreness in places that shouldn't be sore.

I know mirena throws off your period for the first 3 to 6 months. I also know that spotting is typical... but is it typical for it to delay your period by almost a week? I think my normal cycle is 26 days, opposed to my current count of at least 30 but possibly 31 or more. For a few reasons that I don't want to take the time to explain, I'm not sue exactly how long my natural cycle is... perhaps my cycle actually is 28 days... but I think it's closer to 26. Also, what about all the other stuff? Just typical symptoms?

Yes, anything's normal at this point. It will take a while for your period to regulate, and it may not ever come back (in a small percentage of women)

I never had a period for the whole 9 months I had mirena.

I had Mirena inserted during my first period after I gave birth to my daughter. This was in October.
Following the insertion, I bled straight for 7 months.
It finally stopped after the 7 months and hasn't returned.
Irregularity in periods is very normal and common on Mirena.

When I had Mirena put it (I was on my period like they suggest) and my period stopped immediately for 3 years until I just had it removed. I had some spotting and breakthrough bleeding last year once or twice but that was it.

I was using the Paraguard (copper IUD) for 6 months and found my periods to be heavier and more cramps. It was tough, so I switched to the Mirena a month ago and haven't had any period for over 40 days. I am not in a relationship so I'm not pregnant.
My concern is I do want to have a normal period and wonder what these hormones are doing to my body long term?
Does anyone know the effects of NOT having a period for a month or even 3 years like some of you have mentioned?? really 3 years and you're ok with this??
thanks
