Q: normal baby after heavy bleeding ?

Okay, I found out I was pregnant on July 19th by taking 2 home preg. tests. I had my first son in April, so I never had a period between pregnancies.

On this past Saturday, I started to bleed, so I went to the ER where they ran several tests and found that I was indeed atleast 5 weeks pregnant. They also said that they couldn't find a heartbeat, but that they weren't totally satisfied that I had an actual miscarriage. So they told me to come back in a week and they'll run all those tests again to see if the baby is growing and if they can find a heartbeat. They also told me that if i had enough blood to fill a pad every hour for 3 hours in a row to come back.

I never had that much blood, but I am bleeding like I'd be on my period. I also think that I may have passed tissue.

I've pretty much came to the conclusion that I miscarried, so I called my doctor and told him about it, and he's told me he's still not sure that I did.

I guess my questions are:

Has anyone here had heavy bleeding and gone on to have a normal baby?

At 5 weeks pregnant there wouldn't be enough tissue to 'pass' as a miscarriage sign. So that is some good news.

Some other good news, is at 5 weeks with traditional ultrasound, they wouldn't be able to see a heartbeat in the best of circumstances!

Why aren't they checking your numbers to see if your HCG is doubling? Have you had your follow up with your doctor?

I went to the ER at 5 weeks due to severs cramping and they couldnt find even a sac, let alone a heartbeat. All they could see was an area in my uterus where blood was rushing to. At 7 weeks I was able to see the sac and baby, but couldnt hear the heartbeat. So like Igni said those are good signs and could mean a normal pregnancy.

I would call the doctor back and see what your HCG levels show before you come to any conclusions. Best wishes to you and your family.

they checked my hgc levels that day and it also showed that I was 5-6 weeks preg. They will do it again this coming saturday. So, I guess I'll find out then.

They said they could see a 5 week fetus, but not a heartbeat. They also said that it might have been too early to pick one up on the ultrasound.

I did some searching on the internet, and found endometrial polyp. I looked for pictures, and those pictures looks exactly llike what came out of me. Do either ofyou know anything about those?

I just don't want to get my hopes up and be let down again. This has been bad enough, I don't want to go through it all over again.

When you have blood clots, it is the lining of your uterus shedding. You have recently given birth and not had a period since that time, correct? This can be very normal for that.

Usually HCG levels are checked every 2 days. Why are they waiting a week?

I don't know why they are waiting. That's just what my doctor said.

Yes, I gave birth in April. I had the 6 week post partum bleeding and then nothing since then....and then last week I find out I'm pregnant again. I just feel so confused.

At this point, there is truly not a lot you can do - whatever is happening. I know that isn't easy to hear. But this early in pregnancy nothing could be done whether you'd just recently given birth or not. That is probably why your doctor is waiting to do further testing until Saturday.

Take a deep breath and let it out, then be prepared to wait. You can do all the research in the world and whatever you learn isn't going to change any of the situation.

It is good news that your HCG levels are in the 5 week range. It is also good to hear they can see something in the ultrasound.

yes, we'll see. If it winds up being a miscarriage, it's okay. I've decided to be okay with it. What else can I do? The wait until Saturday will kill me though.

I'm still having the same symptoms of pregnancy that I had last week, which is weird, because I didn't have much of any symptoms with my first baby. Smile

I know if it happens it was meant to be. We will probably try again in December.

I have had heavy bleeding in may 10th 09, it lasted two weeks. I went to the Doc and he said it was a miscarriage. However, I missed a period 6 weeks on and my preg. test came bk positive. I went to hospital to see if it was false, but they found the sac and the heart beat of the baby and said everything was normal and I was 10 to 12 wks pregnant. Yet, I still fear for future devlopments of the baby, I'm not bleeding anymore, can I still have a normal baby after bleeding at the beginning?
