About a year and a half ago I had a credit scan done. The Dr. Found a non obstructing kidney stone on my left kidney. About 6 months ago I started having a little bit of discomfort in my left side. About 3 months ago I started having quite a bit of pain that would come and go. But recently the pain has become quite bad. I went to the er and they did another ct. The Dr. Said the stones are still non obstructing and they couldn't find a reason for the pain and sent me home. For the last few days the pain has gotten even worse to the point that it causes me to double over in so much pain. And now its constant whereas before it would come and go. What should I do? The er just keeps sending me home. Im affraid theyll think Im only there for pain med. Even though they havent even prescribed me any. They just said to take motrin which dosnt help at all.

hey there.. this has happened to me quite often. It is really aggravating because most doctors don't think that you should have any pain at all with a stone that is not obstructing urine flow, but in all actuality those stones WILL cause pain if they are moving alot, and especially if you have multiple stones.. I have 13 stones at my last count.. all between 2-3mm each.. which are small.. most days I am fine, but every other week or so I have a portion of my day that is filled with pure pain.. flank pain.. sudden pain.. then it stops.. I try and increase my water intake and sleep dang near upside down trying to pass them but i usually only end up passing one or two and by my next ct scan I have made more. I go to a "Stone Therapy Clinic" at UK here in KY.. I've been going for almost a year every 3 months.. i can't say that its' helping, but the nephrologists there seem to understand what I'm going through and how it "comes and goes". they prescribe me a low dose of trammadol for the pain as needed which helps the daily pressure on my kidneys and bladder, but when the full on flank pain happens, nothing helps.
