Q: Nodules on breast
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 14th, 2009
I went today for a breast ultrasound because was having some pain during menstration . They found 5 small nodules. The radiologist told me they looked benign and because their was more than one more than likely they weren't cancerous. The radiologist/doctor would like me to do followip ultrasound in 4 to 6 months to see if they change any. I was wondering if this is what you would reccomend?

According to the data you reported, the multiple nodules in breasts might be benign tumors or cysts. The ultrasound should be able to distinct these two possible diagnoses, because they indicate presence of formations with different density, thus appearing different on the ultrasound.
The precise dimensions might have been helpful. If the doctor told you the location of the nodules, you might want to have a self-exam to remember the present condition of your breasts. Repeating the self-exam once a month might help you to discover any changes on time and visit the doctor earlier then the recommended 4 to 6 months.
