oct. of last year I stopped taking yasmin for the first time in about 4 years. I didnt have a period for 6 months after that. Even then it was due to the fact my gyno gave me provera. i had a period, then didnt have one for 3 months after that. In the past year I have had 3 periods. Jan,March, and June. The doctor isnt concernd. But I am. Any ideas whats going on? Pregnancy tests all say negative. Am I even able to get pregnant?

I wasn never on Depo-provera. I was on yasmin and stopped them last October. My doctor gave me Provera pills in january to start my period. I took the last one around the end of January and had a period then.

Relax
Heya,

I am no medical expert, but am a firm believer that for every action there is a reaction, especially where the human body is concerned.

Everybody is different, some womens' bodies take time to readjust after being on contraceptives for long periods of time. Especially considering your body was very young and going through some of the major changes to become sexually mature. I doubt your body had time to get into a cycle properly.

The best piece of advice I could give you is if you don't agree with your first doctor, seek a second opinion. There's no harm in shopping around just to make sure you've covered all possibilities.

However, if your doc isn't concerned, I wouldn't be too upset just yet either. Give your body time to re-adjust.

Peace

One of the expected side effects from birth control pills is temporary absence of the regular periods after quiting the pills. Menstruations can be either completelly missing (amenorrhea) or there will be iregular and rare menstruations. Body usually needs several months to establish the normal function of the axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries. The maximum recovery period is 2 years which is rare but possible. Provera (medroxyprogesterone) was given to you to stimulate the axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries and to establish regular ovulations.

You should be concerned if you are planing to get pregnant.

You should be concerned because with 3 periods per year you probably won't get pregnant. Rare periods (oligomenorrhea) indicate that there is something wrong with the axis hypothalamys-pituitary-ovaries. Women with 3 periods per year probably don't have ovulations and without ovulations pregnancy is impossible. Rare periods in your case could be a temporary side effect after quiting the pills.

Well I have been to two different Doctors, neither are concernd or even care. Its a litle upsetting because the longer it goes on the lower my chances are probably getting. How long should I wait before I decide its not from stopping BC?

Two (2) years time is the maximum waiting period for establishing full fertilization ability after quiting the hormonal contraception. But if you intent to get pregnant sooner, you could try to induce ovulation even earlier. If you are not planing to get pregnant in the near future you may put the things to go on spontaneously, without any treatment.

You could consult a gynecologist about this problem.

You can request for third opinion from a specialist for gynecological endocrinology.
