Q: No period 16 months?

I'm 16 years old.
I started my period when i was 10.
I am not sexually active.
When i first started my period i would skip maybe a month or two, i was always irregular, and then it went back to normal after like the first year, but this past year and a half it just stopped.
I last had it in november and then 13 months later i got put on birth control and i had my period twice in one month and then had to get off birth control because it made me very sick.

I dont know whats wrong with me.
I used to have really bad depression but havent for atleast 5-6 months so im starting to doubt that its stress related.

im 5'1 and weight 125 pounds so im not overweight or anything.

im just worried im infertile or i have like a tumor or cancer or something seriously wrong.

help?

No Period for 16 months
Dear Bbizzyy,

You should probably make an appointment with your doctor to get your hormone levels checked. Periods can be quite irregular as a result of hormone imbalances such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), an imbalance of prolactin, or cortisol from the pituitary gland. Incidentally, hormonal issues can also contribute to depression. You need to be evaluated properly so that you can begin appropriate treatment for any condition. Try not to worry too much -most of these conditions are treatable. Good luck my dear:)

Hi bbizzy

i'm also 16 and haven't had my period for 6 months. i'm not over/underweight or pregnant. i moved from america to china 6 months ago so the doctor seems to think it could be stress related but i really don't consider myself stressed. i'm extremely concerned. the doctor said that after summer vacation if i still haven't had my period then i may need to go on hormone medication and get my thyroid checked. sorry that this is of no help to you but i just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one.

Dear American Girl and BBizzy please speak to a doctor who is knowledgeable about what is called Premature Ovarian Failure. It is not normal that you have gone that long without a period and yes it can lead to infertility. Also please do not get on birth control as it mask the problem and you will have no idea of the severity. I am speaking as a woman who was diagnosed with this. Please seek the appropriate doctor someone other than an OBGYN someone who specializes in the Reproductive Endocrinology side of medicine. God be with you.

See I never recieved my period so when I was almost 17 my gyno put me on birth control after almost 2 years i stopped birth control because it was too expensive. i stopped in september and didnt get my period again until june and then not again until a week ago and every time i go to my gynocologist she says its normal for some girls to not ovulate that much? but she never says if I'm at risk for infertility. I really want to have children so I'm confused what to do.
