Q: No period during and after IUD removal

Hello, I've had the Mirena IUD for 5 years. I'm 24 now btw. During those years I have had amenorrhea, and was told it's normal. When it was time for removal, I was told I should have regular menstration after 10 days. I waited about 2 months, and nothing happened, except I gained 10 pounds (not changing eating habits). I went back to the gyno. She gave me vaginal suppositories, and said I should get my period in 10 days... again nothing happened. After 3 weeks, I went back to the gyno. She did an ultrasound, and told me my fallopian tubes were enlarged, but showed no evidence of menstration. So this time she gave me another pack of vaginal suppositories, plus I had 4 injections of hard fat. I did get my period, but it didnt feel normal, way back when I used to have periods, I'd have cramps and my back would hurt, This time, it came and lasted about 3-4 days, and stopped. Its been almost 4 months, and I havent received my period since. I don't think getting injections is the solution every time I need my period. Im not planning on getting pregnant. I want to be a normal female, and have my weight to normal. Please give me some advice.

I have had the same problem for a few years now. I had my first Mirena IUD put in in 1997 and had it taken out in 2000. I had a baby in 2002, had another Mirena IUD put in, and had it removed in 2006. I, like you, did not have a period while the IUD was in, and I was told that was normal. However, since my IUD was removed in 2006, I've had less than 10 periods. Some were 4 days, some were 2 days, and none of them have been one month after the other. Earlier this year my new doctor gave me a pill, called Provera, so that I could have a period. That pill made me SO emotional, but I did have a 5 day period. She only had me take it that one time. I didn't have a period the next month, but I did the month after that, then two months later I had one, and now it's been 3 months and I haven't had another one. I have also gained close to 45 pounds since having my IUD removed in 2006. I know it's because my hormones are way out of whack. I want to be normal, too!! I sure hope there's something that can be done to help. Smile

Thanks for your imput. I went to the gyno again last week. He was advised me to see a doctor to test out my hormones. I'll let you know what happenes and if it works. I would never recommend the IUD to anyone.
