Q: No period after ortho-tricyclene

I am a 30 year old mother of two boys. I quit taking my pill ortho-tricyclene in October because I had breakthrough bleeding that didn't want to stop even when the doctor had me double up on the pills. That only make me throw up. I have not had a cycle now since October. I have taken pregnancy tests all are negative. I know I should go see another doctor but it seems like no one wants to listen and I feel like I may have a serious problem going on. I was due for a yearly pap last year and the doctor that was mine then just wanted to refer me out before starting from the beginning and doing my pap/physical. Get the results and go from there. I have no idea where to go or who to go to..any advice would be appreciated.

You really should see a gynecologist. If yours won't listen to you, go to someone else. Having a doctor that doesn't listen is unacceptable. Ask some of your girl friends if they have a doctor they trust who listens to them.

When you do go in, be nice, but firm with the doctor if she won't answer your questions. Remember, you are paying her for a service.

Tell the doctor your history with the pill and that you haven't had a period since you stopped (more than 6 months ago). She should test your hormone levels, give you a complete exam, and ask you a bunch of questions about any other symptoms you may be having.
