When was your last complete physical? Depression would not cause all of these things...something is going on and you need to find someone who is going to listen to you and run the appropriate tests. It could be something as simple as a hormone imbalance.

Medications that you are taking...could they cause some of your symptoms? Can you do without these? I would not stop taking them suddenly as that could cause more problems...

Best wishes,

~Zig

It could be..
What you are describing sounds like the beginning of menopause to me. I started at 36, and my hair thinned, I couldn't sleep, was having dry skin with itching, headaches, hot flashes, irregular periods and mood swings just to name a few. There are so many symptoms you go through and everyone is different. If this isn't the case for you, then definitely have your thyroid checked, as you have many of those symptoms too. I suspect it could be one of the two. Most doctors don't check for thyroid unless you ask them to. Good luck, and I hope you get a diognosis soon, cause I know what you are going through!

I agree with raven53. This sounds like perimenopause. Your gyn can run some blood tests to check for hormone levels and see if there is an imbalance. You may want to try adding soy into your diet. This has been very helpful for many women during perimenopause to minimize the symptoms. You may want to consult with an endocrinologist about this as well. It is worth an office visit. If your adrenal glands are not producing enough cortisol you can have some of the symptoms you list. Keep looking into this. I hope you find an answer.

Re:depression
to overcome the problems you have mentioned .u just first sit in a calm place and think about yourself and what good thing you did on that day .if you realise yourself then you are out.

Wow, sounds like we r all on the same page with the perimenopause symptoms and or diganosis. I just posted a similar message as croemen30 in the 'panic attack' forum. I take wellbutrin once a day and I keep myself mildly busy all day so I don't wear myself out prematurly and have to be idle for any amount of time outide of working full time and caring for 4 kids. The exception to the above activity is watching tv or exercising. Does anyone else experience anxiety during all of their waking hours? If so, how do you deal with it soas to maintain a relatively normal lifestyle(like we knew pre perimenopause)? Have a nice day.

anxiety
Don't know what to tell you except what has worked for me. Whenever I get anxious about something, I STOP, think about what it is, then tell myself that in the grand scheme of things, my worries are so minimal compared to what others are going through. Usually, I fret over stupid things...bad hair day, running behind in chores, some bill didn't get paid on time...when you think about how others have to live, it puts it all in perspective for me. The trick is to STOP and remember that as long as you are healthy, there isn't anything you can't do. Personally, I got through menopause without a single drug, and I am very glad I did. The mind is a powerful thing...it can make or break you. All depends on whether you let it! Good health all! You WILL get through this!

Thanks Raven. U r so right about the mind being a powerful thing. I'm struggling with how fast all of my symptoms ocurred and how unattractive I feel as a result of the wrinkling and dry skin, appearance of hormone spots, loss/growth of hair issues and countless other changes I've experienced over the past year. I'm trying not to overcompensate by doing other things and I'm hoping nobody can see that I am struggling with this 24/7. None of the remedies seem to erase these issues so I struggle internally everytime I find myself investing resources into them. I agree with your thoughts and appreciate you taking the time to comment. Good times!

I sure know how that goes! My skin was so dry and itchy, I've lost half the hair on my head, (although I am getting hair in other places I would rather NOT have it! LOL!)
weight ups and downs, about the same unattractive feelings as you no doubt have gone through. Then I stop and think about the women I see who REALLY have lost their hair, and when I get really down or aggrivated, I imagine myself being in the doctor's office, getting news that I have some terminal disease...then, all my stupid issues seem so much less important. Now I try and only fret of the really bad things! There is alot we can overcome. The ones we can't are the ones to worry about! Hit the store for some nice new make up and a new outfit! Make you feel like a million bucks!

Please research thyroid conditions, specifically hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid is not working as well as it should be . Symptoms of an underactive thyroid often mimic depression and match many of the symptoms that you described. Also your adrenal glands may be weak as well, they help you deal with stress. People with a history of asthma or alergies often have overtaxed adrenals. Consider going to a natural Dr. or someone who is willing to consider this possibility. Often bloodtests used to detect thyroid conditions don't work well, There are saliva tests and temperature tests you can do too. Research this online and see if it sounds like what you are going through. Best of luck!!

breaking out of schlep mode
The 4 kids are gone and visit 3 grands at 47 but the years of connecting depression, perimenopause, hypothyroid, thinning hair, aches, pains, acne... have me with 2 Rx's (armour and muscle relaxant) and lots of vitamins, herbs, routine for exercise and sleep when I remember to do it all, and hats and scarves that I love.
Keep researching and searching for a doctor who is respectful of your choices. Find good ways to get the anger out. Sorry, that may only be my issue but pounding out a pork loin or a home demo with easy remodel works wonders.
Good luck,
