I've had menstrual issues since the age of 13. I was almost never regular, and I was placed on birth control at the age of 18. I stayed on the pill for about 6 years, but with the rise in cost and the loss of a job I stopped taking it. I would go 3-5 months without a period and then get one lasting for about a week. Occasionally I would visit my gyno and she would give me pills to bring my period on, but each time I knew I was going to be told "you need to lose weight". That is exactly what I started doing, and after losing just 15 lbs I started my period. However, this is not like any other period I've had; there are virtually no clots and the blood is bright red. I soak through the super pads every 2 hours. The cramping is nothing out of the ordinary, but after consulting a friend who is a nurse, she believes I may be having a miscarriage. I did have unprotected sex with my significant other within the last 5 months, but his diabetes and other health conditions prohibit him from acheiving the ejaculation stage so this is why I am very confused. Has anyone out there experienced something like this?

I haven't experiened anything like this but if your nurse friend is correct then you would be 5 months along and you need to see a doctor..Regardless heavy bleeding bright red is nothing to mess around with..

i went through a stage where i was having irregular menses (spotting) for weeks. i found out i have a small cyst on my ovary.
then i started bleeding very heavy just like you. the doctor took a lot of tests to see if i have fibroid tumors, cancer, a low grade infection, etc.
i didnt have anything so i was told i have dysfunctional uterine bleeing.
i read this can be caused my high blood pressure which i was recently been diagnosed with. i also gained a lot of weight in a short amount of time.
i had a hysteroscope (camera in uterus) and d&c (scraping of the lining or uterus. since i wasnt getting a regular menses the lining of my uterus thickened, so they scraped it.
birth control pills regulated my period. it took the doctor a whole year to help me.
i'll private message you some information and i hope it helps.
