I Haven't had a menstrual period in 7 months after getting off birth control, Can you tell me why?I have pretty much always had irregular periods they came every 3 to 4 months, my doctor said its not normal so I started birth control. I was suppose to be on it for a year and then see if it would come on its own. I was on it for the first 6 months and stop to see if it would come. It did for about 2 months and then it stopped again. I finished my prescription and got of the birth control in november of 2010. My cycle came every month till febuary or March of which was when I had my last. Since being off of them I haven't had a cycle, it seems like I get symptoms like bloating and some light cramps for a few day like its getting ready to start but that's it. I'm only 18 and not sexually active,I was also tested for thyroid disease twice by a new doctor and she said the test were normal. I'm very scared that I wont be able to have children later on in life, is there any thing I can do?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Irregular periods could be due to various causes (ovarian suppression or failure, ovarian cysts, PCOD, uterine problems, hormonal derangements etc). You should consider requesting your gynecologist/obstetrician for further thorough evaluation and investigations to look for the underlying cause for your irregular periods. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination and investigation results) would be started to help you get back you periods and regulate your periods. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle. Be in regular follow-up and monitoring of your treating gynecologist/obstetrician and report any unusual/abnormal/new symptoms immediately.
Take care.
