About 2 weeks ago I broke out with a firey red swollen rash under both of my arms. I am 26 years old, workout 4-5 times a week, in good health. I am not over weight, and no family history of diabetes...I say this because I have read that underarm rashes are linked to these things. I have always had sensitive skin so I do not use products other than those I know will not upset my skin. Last Sat. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed this rash as a yeast/candida infection...prescribed me 10 days of nizoral oral, 200mg a day, and suggested OTC Lotrimin cream. I started taking the nizoral Sat. morning and continued without any visible improvement of the rash under my arms, then on X-Mas Eve (5 days into nizoral) I started breaking out with a rash on my chest. Since then it has spread from my cheast, down my arms, and down to my hands. The "new" rash consists of tiny raised bumps...the same rash that I get if I use a product that I am allergic to. I called my doctor's office today and they said to stick with the Nizoral and take some Benadryl for the allergic reaction. My husband and I are very worried because I am obviously not responding well to these meds and benadryl is not helping. I don't know what to do....has anyone else taken Nizoral and had bad effects? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Nobody responded, but I wanted to udate for people who may search this in the future. It turned out that I was infact allergic to the anti-fungal medications, both prescriptive and OTC. The rash under my arms was "cured", but my continued use of anti-fungal meds made it worse, and also made me break out with an allergic rash from head to toe. I recognized this allergy and asken that my MD call in a XR for topical steroids. Within 2 days I was almost clear....now I am completely clear and thankful those days are behind me.

nizoral allergic reaction
I had very bad dandruff and starting taking the OTC version of Nizoral shampoo. Few days after starting Nizoral my dandruff was cleared, but I developed this rash that has been with me now for about 2 months. I have been using Nizoral 1-2 times per week. The rash started on my stomach and then went to my arms. It looks like skin-colored goosebumps and it does not itch. I have been trying to think back to when the rash 1st started and what changed. At 1st I thought it was the activia yogurt regimen I started, but after stopping that for about 3 weeks the rash is still with me and not getting better. The only other thing which changed and I am still doing, is using Nizoral. What was your rash like? and did it go away just by stopping the Nizoral treatments?
