Q: Niravam for panic attacks and anxiety

I have been prescribed Niravam also, but have been too nervous to take it (ironic...). I take Topamax and Lamictal for migraines and depression and it seems like they could interfere with each other. However, my doctor knows all this and says it should be fine.

My question is: Am I going to be so sleepy and incoherent that I can't function? I work long hours and am afraid that taking all these meds could affect my abilities. However, the panic attacks are affecting it too and they have been very severe over the last week or so. I expect them to be extreme the next few days because of a conference I have to work. As much as I try to talk myself through them, do the breathing and the self-help exercises, nothing works. So, I am now thinking I may try the Niravam. But I am worried that it will affect my performance on the job. Any advice or experience would be helpful and greatly appreciated!

If you are nervous that it will zonk you (which is a realistic fear!) try taking just a half maybe, see what that does, and if it's ok, take the whole dose? Of course you can only cut it in half if it's a tablet, I'm not sure what form Niravam is (meaning, don't do it if it's a gelcap or something). Or if you are prescribed two pills, only take one. You get the idea.

Then you'll find out if it affects you strongly, and you can avoid taking the whole thing if you think it will be a problem. But hopefully you won't have terrible effects and you can be nice, productive, and anxiety free!!

Or of course you can always take the first full dose on a weekend or something just to see what happens when you don't have to do anything important, if your schedule allows for that.

Hope that helped....
