night sweats and insomnia

Avatar
I know there is another topic with this name, but what can I do?

anyways.. I've had severe insomnia for about 3-4 yrs. It started as I was smoking lots of marijuana, and staying up on the computer all night. I also did a little cocaine but never got addicted. I'd say I've done it about 10 times or less, and it was a little.

Anyway... I was a daily smoker (of marijuana) for the past 3-4 yrs, and I would occasionally about 3-4 times get off the pot for about 2-4 months. I've had the insomnia. I always attributed it to my back problems, Or a circadian rhythm imbalance or bioclock imbalance. I recently quit smoking again about 3 days ago, and ever since then my "insomnia" got worse. I had insomnia, but when I was smoking I could at least get in about 4 or more hrs of sleep. Now though it's gotten worse. What is strange though is that for the past 3 days I've noticed that I slept better when I didn't have to do anything the next day or wake up really early... so the anxiety could also have been keeping me up. The nights that I did not sleep I have been getting sweaty legs, tossing and turning. I take a LOT of pills to sleep. about 10-15 mg of melatonin, and benadryl, and a l-theanine with relora formula.

I don't know what it is. I was sleeping better when I was smoking marijuana. The reason why I quit was because I've been reading things about marijuana causing sleep disturbances or irregular sleep patterns, and insomnia. I also felt like it wasn't giving me complete rest. So I quit... knowing that my insomnia would get worse.. but thinking that when I fully detox, and get used to not smoking, my sleep would get better because I would "assimilate" and "relearn" how to sleep, without the use of marijuana. Even though I take numerous pills to help me out, because I want to establish a pattern of sleep at the right time (at night), and not get used to the insomnia. Plus I just can't function too well (obviously) on no sleep. Even with the pills though, I can't really sleep. The first night I didn't sleep At All, even though I took the 15 mg of melatonin, and benadryl, and the l-theanine with relora.

I just don't know what it is and it's really debilitating. Nothing has seemed to work for me either, and the marijuana did help... Maybe since it's street dealt marijuana and not medical marijuana it is less quality, and I don't know what I'm really getting.

What should I do? I drink caffeine by the way, but was thinking of giving it a try to stop. I also do exercise but sometimes I feel so bad that I just don't do exercise, or even go out because I feel really bad. I do have to go to a doctor... but the times that I have seen a doctor have kind of been pointless. My guess is they don't really understand what is going on, or there is not much that can be done about it.

Insomania sucks... is there anything anyone can tell me? I've tried a lot of things...

regards

I'm having trouble trying to sleep
I frequently use marijuana for recreational purposes, and experience extreme insomnia as a withdrawal symptom. When using I have no problem falling and staying asleep, but after a day or so without it I can only sleep for a few hours at a time, and usually wake up soaked with sweat and wide awake. These side effects generally subside within a few days as does my desire to acquire more marijuana. I have spoken to other users and it seems to vary from person to person. Also interestingly, other members of my family who partake have similar side effects when not using so it may be genetically related. As the substance is illegal in most territories, little scientific research has been done on the subject so I hope this helps anyone who is having these symptoms.

insomnia from marijuana
I am new to this site and have found all of your stories very helpful. However for me it is different. I started getting these insomnia episodes about 4 months ago while I was still smoking (marijuana). It started one night when I woke up choking feeling like I couldn't breath and continued to get worse for several nights until I came to the conclusion it was the resin from smoking getting stuck in my lungs causing me to not be able to breath, so I quit smoking and it finally went away after a few weeks of very scary nights not sleeping much and trying very hard to clear the crap out of my wind pipe....like a dumb a** I started smoking again around new years eve and sure enough here we go again. It is feb 24th at 4am and I haven't been able to sleep for the last 3 nights. I take meletonin and it doesn't help. I try to make myself yawn so I can take a deep breath and that doesn't work...... I hope this ends soon and I can tell you for sure I won't be smoking again this time....
