I have been wearing a mouth piece to prevent cracking and wear of my teeth. Most of the time, the mouthpiece seems to act as simply an object to bite down on and my jaw is stiff and sore and my teeth will hurt the next day. If I sleep without the mouthpiece, there is hardly any jaw tension or pain.

So, where is the happy medium? How do I protect my teeth without a nightguard? I feel stuck. Thanks for any advice.

What kind of guard is it? I had one when I used to grind in my sleep that was super hard plastic and I couldn't bite down on it, it was impossible. It kept my mouth open, so I drooled all night, lol, but it worked. I eventually stopped grinding.

It is hard plastic on the bottom and rubber on top. What I don't get is how it is any better to clench on hard plastic? Seems like that would cause cracking too?
