Q: New swelling in neck

I have had thyroid problems since i was 16 started with a large goitre and an hyperthyroid that went up and down until i was given rai in 2001 then afew months on went hyper again Mad and was given another dose of rai and went hypo almost 2 months later (never felt so bad) now i have been hypo since and on my thyroxine since. my problem now is that i seen to have a new swelling in my neck my bloods are normal my goitre went as soon as i stared treatment when i was 16 so now im wondering is there a chance it might be thyroid cancer or am i just worrying for notting i am now 29 and have type 1 diabetes since i was 15.

If you have a discrete mass in your thyroid gland by physical examination or/and by ultrasound, then consideration should be given to performing a fine needle aspiration of the nodule. You should discuss this development with an ENT surgeon.
