Q: Never to Masturbate Again
asked by: concernedn on April 9th, 2009
Experienced User
I mentioned in one of my previous posts, that I used to masturbate a lot and recently I have somewhat been successful in reducing it. My questions are: "Is it possible for me to completely stop masturbation for the rest of my life?", "Will there be any harmful effect of stopping it for the whole life?" The reason why I never want to do it again is nowadays I have started to feel it is actually wrong to masturbate. I have some logic behind that. Suppose I am imagining a woman, who happens to be of a very good character and virgin as well, while masturbating. What if I go and say that I masturbated while thinking of you (I am not sure if I am sounding foollish but I am talking in absolute sincere terms}. Surely, she is not going to be very happy and her initial reaction will probably be expressed by at least slapping me if not something more serious. The question is whether God has given me the permission to imagine a woman (ESPECIALLY IF SHE IS A WOMAN WITH GOOD CHARACTER) and fulfill my sexual pleasure (by masturbating). If sex outside marriage is bad because we get impure or rather lose virginity both physically and psycologically, then masturbation is at least half as bad since we lose our purity at least mentally (psycologically). I am sure that a lot of (perhaps most) people are going to disagree with my thoughts. I am confused with these thoughts and I am not very sure if I am developing some mental symptoms. Can an honest person kindly help me with his sincere thoughts ( If you are kind enough to reply to my questtion please answer the first part of my question as well mentioned at the very beginning)? May God Bless whoever answers my questions.

Don't take it personal but I think you are being paranoid about your situation, stop worrying about it too much. I've masturbated after sex with my girlfriend. There are married men who masturbate too.

PARANOID! (TO unnamedny)
I DON'T THINK I AM BEING PARANOID. IF YOU CLAIM SO, YOU NEED TO PROVIDE JUSTIFICATIONS AND LOGIC (like what I did when I tried to prove masturbation is a sin) AS TO WHY YOU THINK I AM BEING PARANOID. SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE MASTURBATED AFTER SEX WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND AND MANY MARRIED MAN MASTURBATE THAT DOES NOT MEAN MASTERBATION IS NOT WRONG. FOR MARRIED MAN TO MASTURBATE (LIKE A RICH MAN BEING INVOLVED IN STEALING) IS EVEN MORE WRONG SINCE DESPITE GETTING THE LEGAL OPTION OF FULFILLING HIS SEXUAL DESIRES, HE IS MASTURBATING (WHICH I HAVE PROVED TO BE WRONG). PLEASE TRY TO PROVE MY ARGUMENTS WRONG THROUGH LOGIC AND COUNTER ARGUMENT INSTEAD OF DIRECTLY COMING TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I AM BEING PARANOID. PLEASE DO NOT FEEL I AM TRYING TO CHALLENGE YOU INSTEAD I SIMPLY WANT SOME WANT TO PROVE MY ARGUMENTS TO BE WRONG THROUGH RATIONAL REASONING. MAY GOD, WHO PERFECTED THE INCREDIBLE ORDER OF THE HEAVENLY BODIES, PROVIDE YOU SALVATION.

You don't really provide any prove to your thoughts, saying IT'S WRONG does not mean anything. How do you know that the girl who you are dating does not masturbate? is it a sin too?

There are girls who interested in sex once a month, there are same type of guys. What if partner's sex drives does not match (which happens) but he/she is a great dad/mom. Go out and cheat is not an option too.

I personally think that you explore yourself, it's a good practice, a good way to prolong your sex life. (Like in sports, more you practice the better you become in it, longer you can exercise, or more you study the better you become at the subject). Also sex is a good stress relief, I believe masturbation as well, but sex is still better.

Concernedn, I think it would help the approachability of your post if you refrain from using all capitals when replying...it is the online equivalent of shouting. Lol.

Unnamedny, I think you have some valid points, but it seems to me like concernedn is approaching the subject from a different point of view.

OP, if you break it down to what is sinning and not sinning, then your argument that the impurity of your thoughts during masturbation goes against your religious ethics and morality is completely valid.

What if you were thinking those thoughts about your wife? The act in itself is not what is wrong, and is not what you need to limit, if you should feel the need. It's the nature of your fantasies, probably.

WELL, THAT IS PROBABLY THE MOST LUDICROUS STATEMENT THAT YOU HAVE EVER MADE IN YOUR LIFE (using all capitals is the online equivalent of shouting!!!). Capital letters are not used for online shouting but rather TO HIGHLIGHT SOMETHING IMPORTANT OR EMPHASISE SOMETHING. ( YOU DON'T KNOW EVEN THIS MUCH). By the way I am not trying to waste time over here, rather trying to resolve an important issue (AT LEAST TO ME). I guess you only answered 20-25% of what I asked. If you do not want to write the full answer, then do not write at all, IT IS NOT AN EXAM! FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T PROVIDE RUBBISH ARGUMENTS SUCH AS CAPITALISATION IS USED FOR ONLINE SHOUTING. don't try to shift into a different topic untill the current one is resolved. Please be honest and sincere while you answer. I will not be able to do anything even if you are not, but INDEED GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF WHAT YOU DO AND WHAT I DO AS WELL. MAY GOD BE THE JUDGE OF WHO BETWEEN US STANDS FIRMLY ON THE TRUTH.

As a matter of fact, I believe I offered my opinion on 100% of the questions you asked. My brief reply is easily transferable to any of the points you brought up in your original post.

As to your use of capitalization, it was 50% joke and 50% friendly suggestion. I am well aware of the use of capitalization to illustrate a point...the reason this is true is because it grabs your attention, much like emphasizing a syllable in real life, or...*gasp* shouting. It is only obnoxious in excess, as you continue to prove.

I don't know why you chose to interpret my response as a direct opposition to your opinion on this matter (as evidenced by your needlessly epic parting sentence), in fact I was empathizing with you. I'm not sure how you missed that.

I think it's safe to say I won't waste my time trying to be helpful on any more of your posts. Best of luck in your search for the truth.

If I have been aggresive in my reply to your previous answer, I apologise for that. I don't want to be someone who makes a mistake and does not take lesson from it. I make mistakes and I am not an angel. However, I still have something to say regarding your comment "I don't know why you chose to interpret my response as a direct opposition to your opinion on this matter (as evidenced by your needlessly epic parting sentence)". If you think God does not tale care of what I do and what you do and he does not judge who stands on the truth, give it a second thought.

I did not say that God is not the final judge of our actions. I said that you are assuming that I was in opposition to you by implying that it's up to God to decide which of us is right, when in fact I was empathizing with your position.

I apologize for that as well. Sometimes when I feel I am on the right track, I make an error of judgement. The thing is that I am someone who has extreme (and sincere as well) faith in God, however, sometimes I write statements about Him that do not necessarily apply in the context of the argument. I admit I got carried away. The objective of my post was not to get into a debate with you guys, however, I only wanted an opinion of something that I was confused with. What I asked in the original post was medically relevant as well (not just about whether masturbation is a sin or not). I would like to give an explanation of why I accused you of only partially answering my questions. Look at the two questions below (I am sure you did not answer these two):

1) Is it possible for me to completely stop masturbation for the rest of my life?

2) Will there be any harmful effect of stopping it for the whole life?

1. Yes it is possible for you to stop. It's going to be a psychological thing, more than likely.

2. There may be harmful effects if you are constantly exposed to situations that increase semen production in your body (constant arousal, etc) but that will only be an issue if you cease all ejaculation period (no sexual activity). This can cause problems if the prostate becomes "clogged" or infected. If I'm not mistaken that's one cause of prostate cancer. So, take care of yourself and maintain a healthy level of sexual activity, or abstain from sexual materials completely if you want to stop masturbating.

That's my opinion, I'm not a medical expert by any means.

concernedn, God bless you!
Your a man of God, so ask him to take control of your life! through God you can achieve anything. As far as harm goes, to be constantly masturbating causes a loss in zinc in the body ,the body needs zinc to maintain good immune balance. Zinc & copper are the balance, too much copper & not enough zinc can cause problems with the prostate enlargement. these are only trace elements but are very important to our health, study mineral balance

Finally, I get someone who perhaps has understood me. Thank you from the most sincere part of my heart for terming me as a man of God (well, we all are sent by God but I will still take that as a compliment). Thanks for the information that you have provided regarding zinc and copper (I will try what you suggested). Now, can you tell me something about the harmul effect of NOT masturbating at all (for eg. suppose from now on what I decide to never masturbate again in my life). I absolutely loved it when you when you mentioned through God I can achieve everything. May God, the best Guide, be with you even in the most difficult moment of your life and glorify you with absolute bliss.

As far as not masterbating at all, what harmful effects? possibly the only problem in modern day is the extra stresses life puts on can create anxiety, where sexual release can achieve a fix short term but insaying that so does being successful at running from a grizzly bear( actually if you are successful at that i'm sure it would be much more gratifying). It's about keeping a positive out look on life & apreciating the fact that we are made in the image of God Our Father & respect for our selves is a mark of respect for God. To achieve our goals through God we must be totally committed to his will & not our own. Here we are in the midst of a world crisis where survival of some individuals will be down to there faith in God. In the book of mathew jesus says that if we have the faith of a mustard seed we can move a mountain, just how much faith does a mustard seed have!

copper & zinc
by the way you cant just take copper & zinc supliments if you want to utilise these supliments look for them in natural food as they tend to be more balanced & less likely to cause an inbalance or deficiency.

First of all, thanks for your replies. Yes, you correctly got my question and answered nicely as well. There was an omission of word "IF" in the question. The Question should have been: "Now, can you tell me something about the harmful effect of NOT masturbating at all (for e.g. suppose from now on what if I decide to never masturbate again in my life". Anyways, your information regarding extra stresses of life, absolute submission of our will to God, Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, and copper & zinc were very useful and more importantly motivating indeed. I suppose you have read my post "Never to Masturbate Again". What are your views on that? Do you think masturbation is a SINFUL act and WRONG? Kindly give me a reply. May God guide you to the path of the Garden of bliss.
