neuromuscular dentistry effectiveness ?

Hi All,

I have TMD and it's severely impacting my ability to enjoy life. Between the sinus pain, excruciating headaches, toothaches, face-aches, and jaw-aches, I sometimes feel like driving my car into a telephone pole.

I have seen an ENT, two dentists, a chiropractor, a maxillofacial surgeon, a psychologist and a psychiatrist (after the maxillofacial surgeon told me that it was all in my head). None of them have helped me. My latest attempt to find relief has lead me to a neuromuscular dentist, however, it's not covered by my insurance, and the cost is considerable.

If anyone out there has received any type of TMD therapy, particularly neuromuscualr therapy, that worked for them, please get back to me.

Thanks

Thanks!
I found a dentist and had a consult. The cost is $3700 for a dental orthotic and is (of course) not covered by any insurance.

Does this sound about right to you?

Hi, I will see a neuromuscular dentist on Tues. I have already had jaw surgery, braces and two teeth pulled, and the dentist says I'm at a disadvantage because of that. Any comments??

NMD changed my life for the better. But- make sure you know the length of time you are paying for (some will help you indefinitely for the one time flat fee of between 3,500 and 6,000) some will limit that to 4 months. The night orthotics seem certain - they make it - it helps tremendously - and it doesn't break and lasts for 10+ years. The day splints have been a headache for me as the gelb splint i wear breaks after about 4 months. My goal is a permanent day splint that costs roughly 3,500 and is fabricated out of titanium or high grade porcelain (which is a less daunting solution for me that 10-20 grand on braces or caps that will ruin my teeth). Good Luck! I know that the pain and headaches can be maddening but NMD brought me significant relief

You may just need the night splint. If you get a day splint and it starts breaking - I would spring for a backup so you can always have one if the other is "in the shop" - I wish I had. Your more likely to get positive results, I feel, if you work with a craniosacral specialist chiropractor while you see the NMD. I have been doing this for a year and a half and whereas I would get debilitating migraines and pretty much wake up everyday with a headache - I'm now 99% headache free. Through the treatment, my NMD has a machine that measure facial muscle activity, I can actually see how my muscle activity in my face has greatly decreased - they are no longer in constant freakout mode with overactivity.
