About the 15th of Feb 2009 i cut my hand open on a cracked window, i tried puttin blinds up that had fell, leaned on the crack with my hand and sliced my palm open below my index finger. After attending A&E they said i would need surgery to repair the nerve as i couldnt feel my index finger (still can't and its nearly 2 months later) was in hospital for 3 days as im diabetic also had the surgery which left me with 8 stitches. After the would itself began to heal i noticed a change in my middle finger and the one next to it, below were the nail is, the joint around the finger tip began to swell, i went to the doc to see if my hand had an infection but according to him this is normal its the regeneration of the nerve and blood flow returning. But now these have swelt even more and i have no nail growth at all in these 2 fingers, i dont relly want to bother the doc again for him to tell me he has already told me wots happening, anyone with similar problems? please let me know

I have EXACTY the same problem as you. Sliced through nerve and tendron in my thumb, got operated and now some of my fingers have swollen, became a lttle white, and I have no more nail growth. Did you still see the doc? What did he say?

Yes i went back to the doc it ended up that i had a nail bed infection and with a course of antibiotics it went away but the nails still never grew and now a new nail has appeared underneath and the original nails have fell off, horrible i know but at least theres growth now. how long ago was your surgery? if its very recent i would leave it to settle for a while it does take a while to heal believe me its been nearly 5 months from my surgery and my hand still isnt right still numb in parts and a sensitive scar

My surgery wasn't that long ago.. about 3 weeks now. It isn't just the nails.. but my skin is a little weird too, it's like.. it isn't growing anymore or something. I'll wait a few weeks and see how it'll work out. =) Thanks a lot for your reply!

a surgeon cut through my nerve while trying to remove ganglion and left me with a torn nerve for over 12 months , they tried to repair last year to no avail, that was on my index finger, now i have cronic pain in middle finger as well does anyone know if this is linked to original nerve damage, i now carnt use either first two fingers and its terrible pain !!!!!!!!!!
