Q: Nerve impulses and B12 deficiencies
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 25th, 2009
Experiencing weird sensation on chest...out of nowhere it feels like a rolling bubble burst that expands and deflates (best way to describe it)then I feel a warm sensation which at times is followed by feeling of anxiety, but somehow I manage to "control" the anxiety but I can still physically feel that burst. I have been to cardiologist & everything came back normal. Also, I have been experiencing almost electric jabbing sensations on top left of head, a couple of times it has traveled down my left arm & of course, onset of anxiety cause Im freaked out about what is happening. These are not painful (chest & Head) but annoying and bothersome. MRI w/out contrast found to be normal. They are not constant either...can go days but sometimes it happens a few times a day. Im terrified! I have a family to care for & I want to be NORMAL for them...please help me. I take ativan almost daily, whats happening to me? lately my mouth has been feeling sore also... Thank you & Blessings.

Given the data you reported (feeling like a rolling bubble burst that expands and deflates followed by warn sensation, electric jabbing sensations on top left of head, which has travelled down left arm a couple of times), it seems possible that you might be experiencing a series of nerve impulses shot for a short time period.

These series of nerve impulses might also be felt like vibrations of muscles in certain parts of the body. The cause for the series of nerve impulses might be a decreased nerve threshold. This, on the other hand, might be caused by B12 deficiency. B12 levels in the blood are not always measured and, if persisting for longer periods, might cause neural damage. The neural tingling and vibrating sensation might be one of the first detected symptoms of B12 deficiency.

You might want to visit your family doctor and have your blood checked for B12 deficiency. If the results come back positive, then supplements might be recommended. If the results turn back negative, then the whole condition might be related to anxiety and you are advised to visit a psychotherapist for longer periods of observation and evaluation of your condition.
