Q: negative hpt - still possible to be pregnant?

If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it! My cycles are normally about 30 days apart (give or take a day ) I'm now on day 41 and I've taken two negative hpt's. I started having cramps about 2 days ago, lower back pain, and I've been really tired and distracted. I haven't had any major stress lately that would've delayed my cycle. Could I still be pregnant and just be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms?

Extremely eHealthy
Sorry nobody answered you sooner. You could be pregnant. Some women just don't have high hcg levels right away. Let us know if you get your period or a positive test. You could go to your doctor and get a blood test done. They are very accurate.

- HPT
I hear you guys. I'm 28 y.o. I have been as regular as clock work since I was 13 y.o. 28 days no questions. Well here I am 5 days late and have had three negitive HPTs. But all the symptoms(back pain bloating nausea breast tenderness fatigue.....etc). I'm going to get a blood test tomorrow but the waiting is painful. My husband and I would be thrilled but even he can't wait. Good luck to all! Baby dust!

Hi there.I am glad i am not the only one this is happening to.Here is a quick rundown....Last month(11th may)i had very light brown blood until the 14th may, then i had about 3 days of lighter red/pink blood.None of it enough to fill a pant liner either.Usually i am very very heavy(sorry to be so blunt).I am now 12 days late, have taken pregnancy tests and all negative.I say this but i am sure i had 2 faint positives that came up about a minute before the time limit..I get very lightheaded at times and have had the cramping like period was coming but nothing.!!!!!! I am guessing its either too early to tell or im not pregnant.I have had this before and didnt get a positive until i was almost for months gone but unfortunatley i lost my baby Sad

Sudden Irregular periods
My wife 32 years of age and was always between 30-35 days. All of a sudden the passed months her cycle lengths were 29,39,51 and now she is 57 days and nothing. She took HPT on July 3 and 11 and negative. We will take one this Friday again. We got a complete workup done in January, no PCOS, fibroids, hormone levels fine. The only thing that changed, she started taking Centrum Materna. We are completely baffled. The ClearBlue Fertility monitor says she is not ovulating, but not sure how accurate it is because it only works if you are btween 21-42 days cycles, but obviously with her sudden irregularity, it isn't accurate. We have an appointment on Aug 11th with a fertility specialist. I don't know how to relieve her stress at this point, I just don't want her to worry. Has this ever happened that the minute you ttc your cycle was totally screwed? I mean we do it every secon day after her period, could it be the increased intercourse?

DOMENIC13: It could be that your wife is pregnant and bleeding but not really having a period--it only appears to be a period. ClearBlue and all those other tests aren't always accurate. So, you can't base everything on that. I would ask to have an ultra sound done and see if there's anything going on in there--then you'll know for sure. Just because the test says she's negative, doesn't mean she really is. I've known several people who haven't tested positive until 10-12 weeks along...and others who have bled through the entire pregnancy--but it's NOT a period just vaginal bleeding. It's totally normal, and most docs don't know what causes it. Hope your appt with the fertility doctor helps to ease your mind and give you some answers. Smile

Hi Smiliemama,

Thanks for the advice. My wife finally got her period after 57 days (2 weeks late). She's finishign up her fifth day tomorrow and back to trying. What concerns me is, perhaps she does have PCOS because she has some of the symptoms, abnormal hair growth, skin tags, irregular periods. I am wondering if the docotor in January missed the anythign on that ultrasound or perhaps she developed PCOS right after. I can't wait to go to the Dr on Aug 11th. I have never seen my wife like this. I want to help, but I knwo there aren't any words at this point that can give her piece of mind.

I am so glad to know i am not the only one that experiences this. I have always been on time with my cycles, but the past 3 months i have not had one. I have taken 4 HPT, within a week of each other, and every one of them came back with a negative result. I finally started what i thought was my period, but have been bleeding for over a week now. Could it possibly be that i have been pregnant this whole time, and my bleeding is not my cycle at all?? Please help me.

Hi All,

So we came back from the fertility clinic yesterday and guess what PCOS. Strange enough, an ultrasound in January did not see cysts, but the Gyno said, that it is not always conclusive. A recent seminar in Copenhagen said that if you have abnormal hair growth, longer periods and longer cycles you most likely have PCOS. Also, a slight weight gain, in my wife's case 3 pounds (1.5 Kg) could have caused the sudden longer cycles. So, next step is I have to get tested for my sperm count and Hep B. She has to get tested for FSH levels, Chlamydia...run of the mill women blood test. Then she has to get an ultrasound any day 2-4 of her next cycle. Assuming the Clam test is negative (I am sure it is), they will run a test (forget the name) where they inject a liquid to see if the liquid goes through her tubes to see if there is any blockage, and even if there isn't the process does open up the tubes anyway. Pending all of this, they will most likely prescribe Metformin to control the PCOS and kick start regular ovulation. I will keep you posted
