Okay so this might be long, but I need some peace of mind. I'm an 18 year old girl, I weigh 105 lbs and I'm about 5'6". For the past 5 to 6 years I've been becoming ill with what seems like the flu. I would wake up with a sore throat, hardly any kind of warning I would just be sick one morning. I would also have chills, headache, fever, occasionally I would get a cough. I would be extremely fatigued with a headache and my body hurts. It sounds normal but each time I go in to the doctor they test me for strep and it comes back negative every time. Once he took blood and tested me for mono, he said the mono test came back negative but my blood count said otherwise so he diagnosed me with mono anyway and I was out of school for about a week and then I felt good enough to go back. This has been happening over and over again each time the doctor says it's a virus and he prescribes me antibiotics anyway "just in case." I also have Raynaud's phenomenon and this summer I couldn't even drink ice water without having an attack, and at one point after walking all day I had lost circulation in my feet to the point where my toes were purple. I went into the doctor and demanded he do something, he sent me to a heart doctor, took some blood, and took a chest xray. He never told me what he was testing for. He eventually prescribed me procardia and it has somewhat helped with the raynaud's attacks. In August of this year I became sick again with the flu like symptoms and about three weeks ago I became sick with these same symptoms again for the third time within six months. I went to the doctor and yet again a negative strep test both times, and both times he prescribed me some antibiotics and I took them. I stopped taking them mid dose this time because I thought it was pointless, but when I started coughing again I started up with the antibiotics. I just finished them about 4 days ago and am already getting a sore throat. There is a bump under the right side of my jaw just below my ear that hurts to touch. My right ear and rights side of my throat are sore. I am still fatigued, my body hurts everywhere and my muscles are burning. This year I've had almost no appetite and have lost about 10 lbs. When I stopped taking the antibiotics a few weeks ago I noticed a rash that looked kind of like chicken pox all over my back and stomach and on my forearms. I have taken amoxacillin a bunch of times so I don't think it was an allergic reaction. This week I also noticed a rash that looks like dry skin on my wrist and hand, but it's not elevated. Another thing that I don't think is associated but has been bothersome is my gums have been bleeding a lot, not when I brush my teeth even..sometimes it happens when I'm just sitting in class. I'm looking for some peace of mind or an answer, because my doctor thinks I'm continually getting viruses and diagnoses me with mono etc.

The medications I am on:
Procardia for Raynaud's
BeYaz Birth Control
Claravis-Accutane
I've also been taking benedryl everynight since I got sick a few weeks ago.

any answers would help!

I don't have any answers but your forum came up when I was questioning my daughters symtoms. She is 8 & has severe allergy problems. She is on Claritan & takes it every morning. She started getting congested & her eyes were very itchy....so, the doc put her in Benadryl during the day & Dimatab at night plus Flonase & Allergy Eye drops. Then, about a week later she woke up with a sore throat, fever, body aches, fatigue, etc. I took her to the doctor. They wanted to test her for strep & for mono. They did a quick strep & it was negative, but while prepping her for the mono test....she passed out in the clinic. I had to bring her back later for them to draw blood for the mono test. That was negative also & I was told that she just has a virus. She was out of school for 3 days & over the weekend. She just went back to school this week & is feeling better, but not eating well or is very tired/exhausted from not doing much of anything.
It's not the first time this has happened. We've been in TX for 4 years now & she has been so sick since we've moved here. She has been tested for strep/mono 3 other times since we've been here & each time it's negative & "just a virus". It makes me wonder if something else is going on!! Hope you get some answers....I will let you know if we come up with anything.

mono strep infection medications flu sore throat
RE: 2 previous posts
I am 56 yrs old. One month ago I went to my Dr with a cough, a low grade temp of 99 degrees, sore throat (no tonsils) w/ red blisters, lethargy, green sputum so he prescribed a 5 day z-pack. My body responded & I improved but my throat never stopped hurting. 3 days after I finished the z-pack, my sore throat was red and feeling like strep. My Dr prescribed a 10 day round of Levequin. Again my body responded to the antibiotics except for my throat was still in pain and the reddish blisters were still present. Following the 10 days of megadoses of "L", within 3 days I felt horrible. My back was super tender in my kidney area, my stomach was in pain on the left by my liver area & my stomach hurt on my right side of my stomach in my spleen area. I had experienced a headache for 5-6 days and a low grade temp of 99 degrees. I was so exhausted I could hardly walk. My Dr tested me for strep & a UTI. Both negative. I had blood drawn & mono came back negative. I was told I must have a new virus. I'm in pain & exhausted with no answers. My flu like symptoms are still affecting me. # Meds infections coughing mono
