Hi

I have a really bad needle phobia. I'm due an injection soon (the cervical cancer jab) and I'm rather worried about it. I thought about it and cried (sounds stupid I know)... but everytime I've ever had an injection I've cried so... I can't seem to get over this phobia.

Does anyone have any advice?

The best way to get over a phobia to is to face it.

I too do not like needles and tense when I have blood drawn...so this is what I tell them.

"Do not tell me when you are getting ready to 'stick' me; just do it as if you mention anything relating to what you are about to do I will find a way to hit the floor" (Plus I hum and go to a happy place Smile)

Best Wishes,

Zig

I've had a needle phobia for years (passed out several times) and at times even not gotten treatment because I'm scared they might stick me with something. Recently I had to get blood taken for blood test and I seemed to find my magic cure. All I had to do was tell the nurse I was fearful of needles and she talked to me about sports while she was doing it to keep my mind off of what was happening. Before I knew it everything was done and I was good. I had so many negative experiences in the past that I was deathly afraid, but now that I had that one great experience I feel so much calmer now getting shots and it doesn't affect me. Simply ask the nurse/doctor to talk to you while they're doing it, or you yourself strike up a conversation. Worked for me, hope it does you!
