I am 54, been having Severe Hot Flashes for the past 4 years, with profuse sweating all over my body every 20 minutes to 2 hrs.
I'm talking Sweat running down my face like rain, drops running in my eyes, down my arms, body and down my legs into my socks, for the first 2 years.
They have slowed in their intensity, and I get them about every 2 hours in the last 2 years, to where they are more where I just get wet and sticky all over, and no more dripping and running into my socks.

But what I have not heard anyone talk about is my Irresistible Urge to Urinate, Every Time I get a Hot Flash.
If I don't get to the bathroom right away, accidents happen.

Is this a normal part of Hot Flashes ???

This subject is geared to the Doctor, but others may provide any input into this subject.

I'm 55 and its happening to me too!
I am in menopause and I notice when I get a hot flash if there is anything in my bladder than I have to go like right now. Its like the two are connected, strange huh? I'm glad I'm not alone. I hope you are feeling better. I get my good days and bad days, but I do alot of supplementation too.

Urination urge when experiencing Hot Flashes
I have been experiencing the urge to urinate many times recently when I am having hot flashes. I am 52 and have been having them about 3 1/2 years. I was thinking there could be something else wrong. It is good to know it is apparently normal. I surely do wish I could find something to at least lessen these flashes they are making me crazy. All the best Ladies!

I think that the more that we think about this, the more we are aware of it....Doing this, we just may make our mind more unsure if we have to go....It is easy to happen....

Severe need to urinate the immediately have hot symptoms symptom
I think you are extremely narrow minded and demean other women by why you said. I have always been what you would call a work aholic like most women I ran my family and home and full time job and I started with the immediate need to urinate and then break out in severe hot flashes and had constant cold sweating for 2 years my life was he'll and then I saw somewhere that someone talked about the need to urinate was a vasomotor reaction to hormone irregularity. For 2 1/2 years I suffered because no one ever talked about this symptom with hot flashes probably because we did not want to talk about that type of thing. I was put on a Lowest dose Combipatch and it has saved my life.I can now work productively and am getting my life back. I think we need to talk very openly about all the symptoms we have in order to help our fellow women with their life challenges. We are in the 21 century and because we don't feel comfortable talking openly about these symptoms millions of women suffer needlessly. I also by accident had a change in my Combipatch dose and it was the Norithidone that/ progesterone dose that was lowered and I started having the same severe symptoms and I realized what happened and the dose of Norithridone was fixed and my symptoms disappeared withinn just a few days? I was petrified thinking the symptoms were coming back but now I have found out we do not only have to worry about the estrogen in the medicine I was severly affected by the change in the progesterone/Norithrodone

menopause
I asked my GP was it part of the menopause to have to urinate before a hot flash. He had never heard of it. I am so glad that this happening is not abnornal. Even if I have tp pee a tiny bit. I must go right away and then the hot flash comes. I am 65 years old and started menopause when I was 47 years old. Does this ever end? Darleen, Toronto

I thought the need to urinate triggered my hot flashes. My hot flashes were just about gone until after I had radiation TX for breast cancer. They tell me there is no connection but I find it hard to believe. With in the past 6 months I started to notice that when I feel the urge to urinate in the middle of the night it is a hot flash that wakes me up. I just figure that somehow it is all connected.

yep, I just figured this out too...having to pee & not quite being aware of needing to pee (especially during sleep)brings severe hot flashes & profuse sweating. However, there are times when I am sweating & hot flashing & either don't have to pee or have just peed. Read also that the sweating ALL OVER could be related to low blood sugar or nerve damage from herniated discs...referred to as autonomic neuropathy causing hypoglycemia. I am still healing from a herniated disc & am chronically hypoglycemic & going thru menopause. O JOY.. the sweating lately is pretty bad. Sweating is also referenced in something called generalized hyperhidrosis. No on seems to know so recognizing patterns in SELF seems to be the only way to zero in on symptoms. -wet, clammy skin is frustrating.

Urge to pee causing hot flash
I am 57 and for the past couple of years I began noticing a pattern. Day or night (aggravating at night) I would have an urge to pee and would start to get hot, then sweaty if I held it at all, I would then have a "hot flash" that would not go away until I emptied my bladder, then within about 30 seconds, I would be back to normal. This interrupts my sleep 2-4 times a night. When I mentioned this to my doctor HE gave me a weird look and said I dont see how that can be related. So I figured i was just one of the weird ones. But now I am convinced and surely there is something to help at night. I am not on hormones, hysterectomy 18 years ago

hot flashes co-occurring with need to urinate
And it happens even if you do not have that much urine in your bladder, right? It is not 100% of the time that they occur together for me but they certainly are correlate alot. I think that you just have to blow off doctors the same way they blow off patients, women in particular, and older women especially.

I have connected my any-time sweats to my full bladder and bowels. Every time I need to use the bathroom and can't go immediately, I sweat profusely. I am almost 54 years old, but have not experienced "regular" hot flashes - fortunately. I have not mentioned this to my doctor and am relieved that others have heard of it.

I think the older we get the more aware we are of urinating....I can just have gone and my husband will say we are leaving now...are you sure you don't have to go?.....So I do again even if I didn't have to before this....

I believe the idea of menopause messes with our minds and can cause many new problems....So goes life....

Take care,
Caroline

Same symptoms here. I'll get a hot flash and then start feeling the need to urinate. I guess it is part of menopause. Thanks for all the posts!

urination and menopause
Hi CarolineEF,
Meopause doesn't mess with our brains, I am actually astounded as to the number of women that look at me as if I am crazy when I mention the big M.We have been condition to believe the big M is the end of our sexuality and our womanhood that is all.
A lot of females don't want to hear about it. This are the same women that are forever looking for the fountain of youth.
There really isn't much to admire there, other than we had firm skin, good complexions and we were lean. I would not trade today with the dumb inexperience girl I was back when I was wrinkle free and liver spotless. I like me now more then ever wrinkles, affirmities, hot flashes, plumbness and all.

When I made the comment about urinating, I am referring to life in general...When we head out I always go even if I don't have do...It is a natural reaction that I believe most people have...With me this has nothing to do with Menopause...I sailed through it and it never bothered me...

I was surprised listening to a conversation at the Beauty Parlor a few months ago....Three women were speaking about this happening that was to be in their near future....They were talking about what supplements to take so that they didn't have the dry skin...Another worried about hot flashes...Yet another was concerned about being sexually hot enough for her husband...

I had the worst time shutting my mouth as I wanted to tell them that this does not change....The woman changes...She accepts the unknown because whe has prepared for it long ago....

hot flash and the urge to urinate
I have come to the conclusion recently that some of my hot flashes are triggered by the need to pee. If I suppress the urge the hot flash starts. As soon as I pee it goes away. Perhaps the act of controlling the bladder raises the body temperature and the thermostat which isn't working so good at this stage of life overdoes it a little.

good observations ucgal. I am trying to be more conscious of when I have to pee. Unfortunately, my flashes don't stop after I pee..in fact sometimes they are worse after I pee. Controlling the bladder & body temperature..all good ideas & factors.

Who knows, maybe you found the answer to many women's problems...By holding back your urge to pee, you are pulling on muscles in your pelvic area...This could put a strain on other parts of your body....Hopefully another woman may find this of help to her...

Good luck,
Caroline

urge to urinate triggers hot flashes
I specifically typed in hot flashes and urinating. Because I noticed that too. If I don't remember to go often enough, sure enough the hot flash starts and I cán't get to the bathroom in time. And it's hopeless in the middle of the night.

hot flashes
Wow, I am glad to see I am not alone. I'm 52 and have been having intense hot flashes for two years. The fact that so many of us get flashes when we have to pee, or in my case, even pass gas, tells me they are in some way connected. Wonder what Dr. Oz has to say about this. Thanks for the posts.

Hot Flashes with urination
I haven't found having the hot flash causes me to have to pee. What I have found, is when I have to pee and don't right away, the hot flashes will start. But, if I use the bathroom right away, I don't get the hot flashes.

I have been really worried about this. I talked to my Dr and she said it has nothing to do with menopause. But, it all started after my hysterecomy.

At least now I know i'm not crazy! Thanks to all of you for discussing this so openly.

Ditto!!

This is EXACTLY what I have been experiencing and only after my hysterectomy in 2009!! I, too have been really worried about this and thought for sure, no-one else was going through this.

While the issue still exists, it is so much better knowing (1) you're not alone and (2) it's not all in your head.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

hot flash and need to pee connection
I'm so glad I found this topic online. I thought I was crazy. I am 51 and have had severe hotflashes for nearly 5 years. I flashed every 20 minutes for more than 2 years. Now it is every 1 to 2 hours all day and all night. In addition to these regular flashes, I ALWAYS flash when I get the urge to pee.

Hot flash and urge to urinate
Thanks Ladies, I too thought I was going nuts, until I read some of your posts. Hot flashes started more intense for me about 6 months ago, just before turning 50. I noticed these symptoms at night: First, I get nausea, then the flash, then the urge to urinate. During the day I don't notice the nausea or the urge to urinate. One co-worker said probably during the day we have more distractions then at night. Glad when this is over!

I'm glad to hear others have made the connection between a full bladder and a hot flash. My question has anyone found a good way to stop these awful night sweats. I really don't want to go on BHRT but I need to sleep.

incontinence with hot flashes
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR POSTS!I am almost 55 and have been in perimenopause for 2 years.I knew I wasn't crazy feeling that the 2 are related, but I never heard of this before. What I observed is that I had hot flashes for about a year then I started getting these combo-flashes as well as night sweats (YUK).
I too, have to pee everytime I'm about to have a hot flash, or vise-versa.I noticed it happens even if my bladder isn't full. I've heard that an herb called black cohosh works. My sister said her doctor told her to take that for hot flashes. I took it before I started having night sweats and it did seem to work, but it seems there's some controversy about black cohosh, so I didn't pursue it. I WILL be revisitng this as well as the other herbs recommended for menopause(bayberry, damiana, evening primrose, flaxseed oil, ginko biloba, ginseng and horny goat weed). Maybe something will help. Do whatever you can before trying BHRT. They don't still prescribe Premarin, do they? That stuff is dangerous.

Hot Flashes and urge to unrinate
It took me years to make the connection between some of my hot flashes and urination. I am 54 and have been having severe hot flashes and night sweats for years. I finally made the connection when I was watching TV comfortably under a throw and then would have a severe hot flash followed by the urge to pee. It happened so many times that I finally put the two together. Thanks for your posts, I know now that I am not crazy.
