hi. i was wondering if anyone could give me information of emergency morning after pill. i had a broken condom on Friday night 6/10. Within the hour I took the morning after pill. To my luck my condom broke the following night. Am I still ok or should I take another morning after pill?
Welcome to ehealthforum,
You can expect to have protection from its use for the next 12 hours (if have intercourse again), but not after this time limit. You might consider taking the emergency contraceptive pills (ECP) again. The ECP works in preventing pregnancy if taken within 48 hours of unprotected intercourse. The withdrawal bleeding that occurs after 5-7 days of taking ECP usually indicates that the pill has been active in preventing pregnancy. This however may not occur if you have taken the ECP close to your period time (as the endometrial lining takes some time to get rebuilt after periods). Wait and watch for your next periods/withdrawal bleeding. If you intend to remain sexually active, consider visiting your gynecologist to get started on suitable regular birth control measures to be protected (after your periods). Be regular with birth control use as instructed. Avoid having unprotected sexual contact and repeated use of ECP.
