Q: Nearly Impossible to Meditate

I've always have a very difficult time meditating. I have yet to keep to a regular schedule. I know this would be very good for me to do in terms of calming my mind and relaxing myself, but I tell ya - most days it feels like it would be nearly impossible. This morning's epiphany was that the BP likely has been part of the problem.

Has anyone else had problems meditating? Did you just put it on hold until you found a med cocktail that worked for you? Did you find that meditating became easier to do after you got the BP under control?

Meditation is a difficult practice to sustain alone. I'd suggest that you find a teacher or a group who you can meditate with at least once a week at the beginning. IT will help keep you motivated!

Meditation
I do it once in a while. The first times were really hard, but it's gotten a lot easier and much more rewarding.

I tired starting with 30 minute sessions, and found they were way too long. So I reduced it to 5 minutes, did that for a while, and then progressively added 5 more minutes each time I felt comfortable with the amount of time I had reached. I do 30 minutes now. I find that putting on a little music helps, I usually listen to "Dead Can Dance"....odd music, but I find that it applies to my current state as BP.

Also, it might help to set aside a certain room in the house for meditation. THere are so many distractions already, that it's easy to get pulled out of meditation when the phone is ringing or people talking loudly. Also, evening hours right before bed work for me.

Okay, pdoc determined that the meds aren't addressing my agitation enough, so we'll try something new and maybe that will help. Even as I write this, I'm shaking my leg like I have restless leg syndrome. If I'm not emotionally agitated, I'm physically agitated. No wonder I can't meditate!!!
