Q: nausea with palate expander?

Hi There,

Does anyone have any knowledge about a palate expander causing constant nausea?
My 8 year old daughter has one in and she has had constant nausea for the last 21/2 months now. She has seen an Internist, 2 GI doctors, 2 Pediatricians... all tests come back normal. It has been a complete nightmare because my daughter is so miserable with this unrelenting nausea.. We are wondering about the palate expander and what effect it is having on all of this. Has anyone heard of this??

Thank You,

Julie

It is known that wearing the palate expander leads to excessive saliva production, that is one of the causes for constant feeling of nausea.

Nasea and Diarhea with Rapid Pallet Expander
I am so sorry to hear about your daugher. I imagine that by now she is no longer wearing the expander. I am curious if her nausea stopped upon its removal. My 13 year old daughter is having the exact same symptons as your daughter experieneed. She started throwing up and diarrhea about 3 days after getting the expander and it is only getting worse now 1 month into this. We have taken her to the dr and had several tests ran - all normal. She still has one more month to go. Orthodontist has NEVER heard of this happening. Nancy
