Hi.I am Loron, and new to this site.i am a 50 year old woman and a year ago, fell in love with an hiv positive man.before we met, I chose to live a celebate life, and had not been sexualy active for 11 years..He has been hiv positive for 20 years, and he is in good health.his viral load has always been undetectable.but, his cell count is at 160 right now.he is tested every 3 months, 6 months ago, he was over 200.i still have alot to learn about this, and have alot of questions,i believe in natural medicine, and take a product called "host defense", by new chapters.it's made with medical mushroom's and helps support the immune system.and i would like to know if this would be benifical for him.or if it would be compatable to take with his meds.i'm not sure exactly what he takes, as they change often.but, i would think anything that strengthens the immune system would help get his cell count up.And. because his viral load is undetectable, does that mean it is less likely i can be infected? we always use condoms, and even then, he pulls out before ejaculation, and showers imediately after. We do not use a condom with oral sex,but he never ejaculates in my mouth.is this safe?..I want to spend the rest of MY life with this man.!!but. all the information i've read, 20 years is a long time to live with hiv.i refuse to believe that!.i would like to know how many long term survivers are out there. i know he will be one of them!!!thank you. sunny

Good for you for following your heart.

I have had HIV for almost 16 years that I know of. I used to have 80 fighter cells and now I have 270. I am undetectable and my beloved husband and I use condoms faithfully. He doesn't have the virus. Undetectable means that doctors doctor 's cannot measure below a certain level. In my case they cannot measure below 40 virus per milliliter of blood. Meaning there may be some virus floating around, maybe enough of them to cause infection. I cannot say for sure and that is why we play it safe.

With a condom, it is safe to have sex till the end. It is best you finish what you started right? Very Happy

Oral sex is a low risk activity. It is important to have good oral hygiene. Don't brush or floss your teeth before the hot date. The cuts and tears are enough to allow the virus into the blood stream. We are not very fond of oral sex.

Below is a link you might enjoy reading.

Enjoy the rest of your life with this man.

Oh, the doctor doctor said that I was ill for a long time and might never rise above 300 fighter cells. At one time I had 390 so I know I can go higher. I have tried herbs and acupuncture and nothing has worked. I am trying the vitamin D3 at the moment for general health.

Make sure that your man explains to his doctor doctor anything he is about to try like the "host defense"

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Thank you Muthoni.I found the link you sent quite comforting.I've been alone with this for a long time,as my family doesn't know about him.so, he is the only one i can talk to about hiv.And i try hard not to talk about my fears with him, i know what the power of negative thought can do..we live 3 hour's apart, but we see each other as often as we can,We have been house hunting, and hopefuly will be together full time this summer..it's the time when we're not together all the fear's and what if's start creeping in.And if i'm doing the right thing.of course in the end, the answer is alway's yes, but, the mind can be a cruel thing.and the stress is taking it's tole on my health as well..I too am glad i followed my heart.if i hadn't, i would of missed out on the most beautiful and loving, man i've ever known. I'm finding strength in reading the posts here, And i think the more i learn the less fear there will be..

His wife at the time, was infected through a blood tranfusion back in the early 80's. and she tested positive about 1988 when they're son was 6 months old.he was nagative, but my man tested positve. so, she has had it for about 25 years.and her cell count is still above 300.and is doing very well.this gives me alot of hope.!..thank you, and God bless everyone here.
