Since I was really young I have always had problems concentrating on one thing or paying attenition to someone. When I was put into school, my teachers noticed there was something different with me.
My mom had to talk to the one of the high ups in the teaching system at the time. She was told I had autism and that I will never be able to learn. My mother being the strong willed person that she is didn't allow the school system to label as such.
When I transferred schools in the second grade, my teachers told my parents I have ADHD. My mother took me to my doctor and had me tested for ADHD. When the tests showed that I did, I was put on medication. With the help of my teachers (A few really really helped me) and the medication, I was able to re-enter regular classes in the sixth grade. In my eighth grade year, I was finally allowed into all regular classes. Also I was taking off my medication, because it was making me sick.
As it turns out, I started doing better in school without the medication and my doctor told me that it had worked. I had been able to work through my ADHD to the point where I didn't need special help nor medication to allow me to live like a regular member of society.
In ninth grade I was put into a Advanced placement course and I continued to be in tenth grade for history as well.
The reason I have written this for all of you is to show that ADHD isn't the end of the world for you, your child, or anyone around you. I have been able to successful even though I have ADHD.
Never give up hope for yourself or anyone around you with ADHD.
