Roxy will sniff poop and after she sniffs
it she will not walk over it she'll jump
to the otherside. It coul've been a flea
maybe from outside...idk just saying Roxy
had a flea problem and that's what the vet
said she ate. My poor baby I'm glad she
is sooo much better!

IDK what's going on with her. I just want
her to be healthy. She still is in a good
mood. She happy, we ran together back to
the house after taking her out tonight. I
had wondered why she was always wanting to
eat soo much. I'm just really down
because we're tying to move and the money
that we saving up it going towards Roxy's

want ehr to get better. Tomorrow I'm
calling the vet to see what's up with
that. IDK if it's something caused
because she recently has diarehha. Can
someone pls comfort me about this and let
me know she'll be okay. I know she can
possibly die in most serious
cases. |
Your dog is fine! She has tapeworms.
There is no other way for a pet to get
tapeworms except from fleas.
Many people who had thought their pet
could not possibly have fleas find out
about the infestation this way. The
tapeworm segment breaks open releasing its
eggs. A larval flea consumes the egg
along with the flea dirt that it normally
eats. As the larval flea matures, so does
the baby tapeworm. When a grooming dog or
cat licks the flea and swallows it, the
dead flea is digested in the dog’s
stomach releasing the baby tapeworm. The
tapeworm is passed to its new home in the
dog or cat’s small intestine where it
attaches and lives its life.
This parasite does not harm the pet in any
way as there are plenty of nutrients
passing by to serve both the host and its
tapeworm (tapeworms require very little
nutrients.) Still, high performance dogs,
who need every Calorie working for them,
may show a decrease in performance because
of a tapeworm infection.
Heartworms are what you need to worry
about that can possibly kill a dog-not
tapeworms. Heartworms come from mosquitos,
so make sure to use something like
Advantix on Roxy.

There are different forms of worms.
Hookworms, tapeworms, heartworms, and
roundworms.
Tapeworms only come from fleas.

Then the animal must have swallowed
segments.
I know a lot of dogs like to eat feces, so
that could have been the direct origin,
however; tapeworms come from fleas.
Edit:
Your home or pet doesn't have to be
infested with fleas to swallow one. Even
if your animals are treated with Advantix
(or similar medicines), a flea WILL jump
on your animal when they go outside. The
medicine prevents infestation. The flea
will jump off, but it CAN and WILL get on
your animal.

How does a dog get tapeworms?

[the only cause I have found is from
fleas, either directly or indirectly]
*The tapeworm cycle begins with the
flea larvae eating fecal matter that
contains tapeworm eggs.
*The eggs hatch inside the flea and
become cysticercoids.
*A dog may then swallow a flea that
contains these cysticercoids while chewing
or biting at an itchy area on it's skin.
*Once the flea passes into the dog's
intestine the flea is broken down and the
cysticercoids develop into an adult
tapeworm.
*The tapeworm attaches itself to the
lining of the intestine and feeds off the
nutrients.
*As the tapeworm matures the tail
segments drops off. These segments are
mobile. Each segment contains the eggs of
the tapeworm. The egg packets are passed
in the feces of the dog.
*The eggs are then ingested by the
flea larvae
The most common areas that tapeworm eggs
are found are in the dog's bedding and in
your carpet.

How can I prevent her from getting worms
again? She is always licking herself and
cleaning her paws.

Put her on a flea-prevention medicine
treatment, like Advantix.
You won't be able to stop her from
licking/biting at herself, but you can
prevent the fleas.
If your house is infested, you might want
to have it flea bombed, THEN start her on
treatment. That way, your house won't
become re-infested and neither will Roxy.

Okay I gave her a pill last month so It's
almost time for another pill. I will have
to purchase again. The vet had gave me a
pill for her fleas. We just moved into a
new apt so it should be okay on the fleas.

Those pills only prevent temporarily. The
best kind is the liquid medicine that you
put on her neck.

I believe you have to have a vet
prescription to order meds from there.

When I worked at the SPCA, the vet gave
out the flea pills-they lasted a month but
they aren't as good as the liquid
medicines. The reason is they don't kill
eggs or prevent mosquitos/ticks.
