I recently came across a statement on a medical-site, that there is possibly a connection between Mitral Valve Prolapse, Depression and Anxiety.
Having Mitral valve prolapse and regurge, I find this very intrueging.
Has anyone heard of this before? Know of any research and/or reasons for this?
If it is the case, it would make sense that I might have Bipolar like symptoms but not actually be Bipolar?
The diagnosis of BPD, was made on the basis that I have Rapid-Cycling, Anxiety and OCD. In my mind, Rapid-Cycling makes sense due to the MVP as it would cause irregular blood-flow causing mood changes?
Anxiety might also make sense in a way, seeing as anxiety is a natural occurance during flight-or-fight and elevated/irregular heart-rate might trigger this?
I know all of this might only be speculatory but if it is the case,...maybe anti-depressants is causing more problems rather than solutions as the problem might not be chemical-inbalance related but rather due to MVP?
