Q: Muscle Loss

By stopping weight training and focusing strictly on cardio excercise for awhile, will I loss quite a bit of muscle mass? The reason I ask is I've been weight training for a couple months and gotten some results but I found out that my cholesterol level is a bit high so I decided to change my diet and do alot more cardio. I do need to lose more weight however so I think the cardio will do good for me.

I think that you just might need to experiment with this yourself. Try the cardio for a while, and notice the results. You can always add weight training back into your routine again. But now's the perfect time to learn about your own body (we're all different). Perhaps there's a balance between the two where you'll discover optimum results.

That will depend on how much muscle mass you have, if you have a lean muscular body as it is, no, you won't lose much. If you have a body builder's body with biceps the size of people's heads, etc, and decide to cut back on lifting significantly and switch over to cardio, yes, you will lose quite a bit of it.

Remember that your body is a highly efficient machine, it adjusts to what is required based on the immediate situation. Muscles use up a large amount of energy even at rest. If you cut back significantly on exercises that require larger muscle fibers for an extended amount of time, in essence, the body will "realize" that you no longer have the need for such mass and cut back on energy loss.
