My 4 year old daughter constantly has either constipation or mucus jelly filled green diarrhoea.

I'm a health professional but I am at my wits end here. My MD is also no help at all. Just prescribes something to cover the symptoms.

When the diarrhoea strikes,- about once a month- the smell is just awful. I'm a naturopath, and used to smelly stools, but this is off the chain. I almost can't stress enough just how bad it smells. It has even made me vomit one one occasion. I also can't describe the smell in any of the usual medical terms.

The stool is normal size but is almost 100% thick gelatinous mucus and a is mix of an alarming sick green colour and light brown/orange. There is a small amount of watery brown discharge present.

Her diet is well balanced and she eats a variety of nearly everything. She hasn't tested positive to any of the usual allergies.

She also has a chronic cough, which is worse in the morning and night, but isn't responding to asthma drugs.

There is no infection.
