Q: Mucus and nasal infections
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
I have a few symptoms which i think are definitely linked i believe. i have tinnitis, a white spot on the back left side area in front of my tonsil, i feel tired alot, i had white bumps on the area at the back of my throat (behind the usual pink ones) on my right side and i suffer from chronic bad breath most of the time even though im meticulous about oral hygiene. The smell is present in my nose also and i occasionally smell what seems to be toxic cigarette smoke. Even though i havent smoked for 5 years or am around anyone else who smokes. I would dearly love to find a reason for these very unpleasant side effects as its affecting every single aspect of my life. the tinnitis and bad breath particularly. My diet is pescetarian so fish, dairy with plenty of fruit and veg is the norm. About 4 years ago i lived in accommodation that had a damp problem, every night without fail for about a year my nose would run like a tap. do you think that this may have caused a mucus build up?

You would like to know the reason for the mucus that built up.

Mucus in the nose is built up when there is an infection located in the nose. The nasal discharge may be colored and viscous if there is bacterial infection and colorless and water-like if there is a viral infection.

Sometimes the nasal discharge may be released from the back of the nose into the pharynx often provoking coughing. Bad breath may appear when there is caries on the teeth or when the gums are infected or delicate to the touch and easily bleed.

You may consider seeing your doctor to consult him whether you may be experiencing one of the following medical conditions: nasal, pharyngeal infection or chronic sinusitis. You may also consider seeing a dentist to check up on your teeth and gums.
