Mucous in Diarrhea - listeriosis?
Posted: 08-28-08 01:05am

6 days ago I got a terrible sore stomach, and then diarrhea. I thought it was just a virus but I've never had a stomach bug thats lasted 6 days. Just recently I started taking note at what stool looks like and it has yellow stuff throughout it. It is very bad at night and in the morning, giving me terrible stomach aches, but when I don't need to go, my stomach is pretty much fine and it's a just a little ache, sometimes no ache at all. I feel a bit under the weather because I also have a little bit of a sore throat, sharp headaches (although they only last a minute or 30 seconds usually) and feel very tired and my limbs, back and neck are sore. This is very annoying and painful at times and I just want to know if it will pass soon and when (if it doesn't stop) I should see a doctor. Right now there is a bit of an outbreak of listeriosis. Symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness, nausea and diarrhea for listeriosis, but I read that it's recommended you don't get checked unless you have the fever, which I don't (no vomitting either). I am a bit worried because apparently 15 people have died from this and I'm not sure what to do!

According to your symptoms (diarrhea and abdominal cramps) you are probably experiencing an intestinal infection.

Listeriosis is possible but very uncommon. Some other infective agents (viruses and bacteria) are much more common provokers of intestinal infections than Listeria monocytogenes. More vulnerable to listeriosis are pregnant women, immunocompromised people and newborns.

Do you still have diarrhea and stomach cramps?
