Q: MS symptoms or hypochondria

Considering that I come from a line of hypochondriacs, I am hoping to avoid embarrassing myself with my GP by asking for opinions here first (just in case I am NOT in need of seeing my GP).

In early 2006, I had a mild case of Shingles. It affected my right side in a 'band' from the center of my navel around my right oblique and stopping at the middle of my spine on my lower back,

The following things I am experiencing may have no bearing to the above, of course, but I am using it as a timeline reference.

1) Within 6 mos of having shingles, my right foot would feel 'tingles' nearly every afternoon at about 4pm and would clear up over night and then repeat the same pattern. This sensation is now with me constantly.

2) Within another 3 months, I experienced electrical shocks very infrequently in my right oblique. It is very "topical" in nature and absolutely painful. These sensations only happen when sitting down or lying down. They have now increased in frequency and I experience them daily, albeit in varying intensity.

3)Within the last six months, the tingling sensation in my right foot has replicated itself on my right hand, and occasionally in my left foot.

4) (ok this one is weird). When I look at stars in the sky, I see the "white" of the star as always, but they appear to me also as red and green twinkling lights. This never goes away. I have also started having my right eye getting blurry.

5) My latest development is a pain in my left arm which I can only describe it as if someone gripped my bicep and their thumb would be pressing hard in one particular spot in my inner bicep. It is getting pretty painful.

6) I admit to a lot of stress and the fatigue I have experienced could certainly just be that. However, it corresponds to the same timeline of the other symptoms above.

Recently, I have been browsing the net to attempt to understand if any of things are connected to each other and what might be happening to me. I have come across information related to L'Hermitte's sign, red-green color distortion, fatigue, etc as potential symptoms for many diseases, including MS.

I am looking for guidance on whether any of the above could be connected and, if appropriate, what is my next step to try to deal with it. I have not been to my GP, mainly because I have little faith in him, but also because all of this could be hypochondria and I simply do not want to embarrass myself if it is.

I appreciate your input.

There is nothing to be ashamed of. You have right to take care of your health and to ask your GP about anything that might concern your health even if that is hypochondria.

Your symptoms can be present during many neurological disorders (including MS) or mental disorders (like hypochondria) but you need to schedule a few medical examinations to prove or rule out every possibility.

You can visit your GP and later a neurologist and ophthalmologist if necessary.
