In April 2008 our 21 year old son started experiencing numbness in two of his fingers on his left hand, with severe pain and numbness in his upper arm. He did not injury it in any way. He went to the emergency room where x-rays were taken. Inconclusive. He has been to two Neurologist during which time he had an MRI done on his neck and shoulders (they were thinking it was Brachial Plexus Neuritis). Inconclusive. An Evoked Potential was done which did show a deficit in the nerve reaction, but there was still no reasoning as to why. The doctors also suspected Lupus, due to a slightly elevated ANA. Inconclusive......again. One week ago, he started having a stabbing pain in his right eye with severe blurring with his near vision in that eye. He has to close one eye to read close-up. We took him to an
Opthalmoligist four days later. The optic nerve was fine (thank God) and an MRI was ordered for his brain for fear of Multiple Sclerosis. He had the MRI done today and again.......the MRI showed nothing. We are at loss, but we know something is wrong. He is not a smoker and drinks on occasion. He is a third year honor student at a university in our state and is getting ready to start a new semester. Does anyone have any ideas on what we should look for next??? By the way......the pain in his eye seems to be subsiding; however, he still suffers with it being blurry and he has not regained the feeling in his fingers or upper arm since last April.............

If he is seeing a neurologist I would ask what other tests need to be done or what has been ruled out and what has not.

I would ask your son to keep a journal of these episodes..even small things that may seem insignificant at the time may actually be the piece of the puzzle.
