Uncovertebral hypertrophy is not normal especially at your age. You are right you have a kind of arthritis, it happens when the vertebrae in your neck sit rather close together, and as they flex and bend they press on one another creating bony over growth (hypertrophy). The MRI doesn't show any compression of the nerves i will cautiously tell you your condition does not sound operable at the moment, that's probably why they are saying nothing is wrong from my reading of the literature on the net there is no clear path of treatment for you, but if you are not satisfied with your treatment i would consider seeing other good medical professionals.

hi elizabeth. what kind of a dr did you see? if it wasnt a surgeon who specializes on the spine then i recommend you see one. your job is tough on the spine and you want to be sure you arent hurting it further by lifting and bending. the symptoms you have demonstrate you still have presure on the spinal nerves. a gp dr. if that is who you saw doesnt have complete knowledge of the spine like a surgeon. if you saw a workmens comp surgeon i would get a second opinion from a dr of your choosing. in many cases the drs used by the insurance company are just trying to keep costs down.....pete
