I have been taking pentasa for the past nine months been on entocort twice in the last nine months. Doctor ordered calprotectin back in august was 450, then December dropped to 339, then in February 244, now in May back up to 413 normal being 0-50. Now she is for sure going to start me on 6mp. All I read about this drug is bad stuff. I am so afraid of getting cancer or something from it..If anyone is taking and and having good results please leave response. I really need some support, I am terrified scared

6MP
My son has been on 6PM for several years. So far, so good. He is now in college and eats everything except Mexican & chinese and (drinks some wine - not supposed to).
I don't think he will go on this forum, but if you email me I will have him send a reply.
He was diagnosed at 14-15 and is now 20.

Before allowing him to go on it I read everything I could find on the web - almost all was good from the people taking it. It is the warning labels that scare you !

If you go on 6MP there is a lab that can tell you if you have too little or too much in your system. The bloodwork is not cheap, but I think a test or two over 18 months is helpful. Check out Promethius Labratory for testing supplies and information.

6mp
I am in the same boat. I was just recently diagnosed with Crohns and have been on a rollercoaster ride of pain and pills. Currently on entocort, cipro, flagyl, and several others. I am supposed to start 6mp tomorrow and I guess I just have to cross my fingers the side effects are rare.

6mp
I took 6mp for about 5 years! No side effects what so ever! In the last year, I've been bedridden on and off and this caused be to gain a substanial amount of weight (not at all from the crohns, old ankle probs). My doctor increased the 6mp to 150mg and I immediately began extremely constipated. When I stopped the 6mp, I was back to my raging diarrhea. The doctor tried to decrease the amount, but my blood work came up too low. Increasing it became so painful I had to go to the hospital for an abcess near my anus. It burst when they tried to insert an enema. The doctor and I agreed to stop the 6mp until after I had ankle surgery and lost all of the weight by walking! As I said, no side effects at my past weight and I am looking forward to resuming my treatment.

I hope this helps!! If you have any other questions, contact me through this site!

not a fan of 6mp
With my immune system suppressed, I have a sore throat worse than any strep I've ever had, and getting worse by the day. I was formally diagnosed with Crohn's about a month ago, and have been on prednisone and asocal. I'm about at the point that I think that the symptoms of Crohn's are more worth having than the side effects of everything my doctor has put me on.
