You probably know many of the symptoms of a cold: sneezing, sore throat, a stuffy nose, and coughing. Do you know the difference between the flu vs. a cold?...
So I'm really confused on what sickness I might have. So I've had this really bad cough for about two and a half weeks now, just 4 or 5 days ago I started getting a runny nose and my tonsils were swollen. My tonsils are no longer swollen but the back of my mouth is really red and the back of my tongue has rather large bumps that make eating and swallowing rather painful. I really want to know what this is so I can get rid of it....

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

The symptoms described indicate that you might be having bacterial pharyngitis.

The treatment includes adequate rest, proper hydration and symptomatic treatment, including antihistamines (Claritin or benadryl) to control the allergy symptoms and tylenol or ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation in the throat.

In case, you develop, any headache, high fever, purulent (yellow greenish) expectoration, you might consult a doctor who can examine and treat you with a course of antibiotics for a few days.

I hope this helps.
