Q: Mouth guard and wisdom teeth
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 8th, 2009
I have gone to the dentist twice to fix one of my teeth that needed to be filled. i got it filled but it still hurts. I clench my teeth at night so that seems to make it worse. so i was thinking of buying a mouth guard. If one of my wisdom teeth are coming in, will it mess it up or anything?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
If the tooth you got filled still hurts, it means that there is probably an exposed root canal. This would need to be fixed or the pain will persist. The mouth guard can prevent mouth grinding. However this will not take the pain away from the tooth.
Mouth guard if not well fitting can cause irritation of the gums over the wisdom tooth. Hence you will need to buy either a well fitting one or a customized one.
It would be good if you can consult the dentists again regarding both your problems before you take any further action. Hope this helps. Take care!
