Q: Morning after pill and late period
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 11th, 2009
Hello. Me and my boyfriend have not had sex but we have been having some heavy petting lately. And as a precaution I took a morning after pill after one of those times a few weeks before due to the intensity of the acts and now I've found white pimple-like lumps on my areola. I've taken a home-pregnancy test and it was negative but my period was late by 5 days last cycle but the duration was the same. Can you please tell me what's happening. I know the chances of pregnancy is close to none but can someone please explain to me what's happening with my body?

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth's Ask a Doctor forum.

Since you took a morning after pill which is high on hormones, this can cause lot of changes in the body including a delayed period. The pimple like lumps could be due to effect of hormones or they could be due to infection with saliva during foreplay. If they are due to effect of the hormones, they will go away on their own.

Hope this helps. Take care!
