Hi,

From last 8 years I'm suffering from depression but not medicated whole time. 3 years before when I severely effected I had taken 'Risperedone' for 2 months and stopped. Again I got severe depression with Schizophonia
in the last year and then onwards started taking risperidone 4mg and now dose has been reduced to 1 mg. As I have mentioned the sudden mood swings to my doctor, she has prescribed 'Sodium Volproate' 200 mg daily thrice. From last 6 months I'm taking Volproate but I'm not finding any good improvement.

Is this mood swing disorder curable? Do I need to change the medication.
Please let me know. I'm not able to keep eye contact with new persons, after 15 to 20 minutes, the mood changes to sad mood suddenly.

It does sound like you have a mood disorder. If you are not finding that your medication is providing relief from the mood swings you may want to discuss this with your doctor. You may need your medication increased or you may need another medication. Your doctor can discuss the options with you. Have you tried to keep track of your moods to monitor your response to the medications? Do a web search for "mood charts". You can look at them and pick one that will work for you. It will help you track your moods and your doctor can see your progress.

I hope this helps. Bipolar disorder is not curable but can be managed. Don't become discouraged. The process of finding the right medication can take time.

Hi, my name is Pammila and I am Bipolar I

I use to be on the medication you mentioned the Risperedone. My doctor ended up putting me on a number of different meds, finally I leveled out taking Geodone.

It really differs for each person. I remember it took me more then 6 months to get straight on my meds. Hang in there.

I believe it is live long, to keep the bipolar in check.

There have been times (years) where I was not on any medication and I was ok until a crisis occurred and I was set off.

But now I stay on the medication to make sure I don't have any incidences again.
