I see nothing wrong with a pacifier (binky) or thumb sucking. As long as it stops before that child starts preschool or kindergarten. Its a form of security to them. I myself sucked my thumb and had a "linus blanket'. That blanket is 52 years old this July! My daughter had a binky, she trhew it away on her own at about 18 months. As for your 3 year old, this is gonna sounds harsh, but dip her finger in pickle juice. A few times of the nasty taste and it might just break her.

i didnt see anything wrong with the pacifier either, but because he was breastfeedinf he wouldnt take it, or a regular bottle because of the nipple shape, the thump sucking is causing her teeth to curve

I had to wear braces because of htis very same problem...try utting her finger into somethign that taste GROSS (nothing that would hurt her) NOTHING HOT. Vinegar or pickle juice. Everytime you see her put it in her mouth, put more on it. This is how my Sister in Law stopped my niece form sucking her thumb.
