My teen has positive test for mono and has been sick with a sore throat and fatigue off and on for a month. My teen has had a school trip planned for 7 months to go backpacking for 2 weeks. There are some rest days on the trip and the hiking mileage for the whole trip is only 40 miles spread over two weeks. They are to leave on the trip two weeks from now. Is is medically safe for my teen to participate?

Did the symptoms start month ago?
Does he feel discomfort in the upper left part of the abdomen?

Rest is the most important treatment for uncomplicated mono. Even if the person started to get better, will have to curtail activities for several weeks, and it can take two to three months or more until the malaise feeling go away.
